MSF Group Riding Tips

Postby dcgsrider » Thu May 11, 2017 9:16 am

Per the BMWBMW By-laws, our group riding style follows the guidelines from the Motorcycle Safety Foundation.

"X. Riding Style

The club shall have an organized riding style based on the Motorcycle Safety Foundation's recommendations. Each rider shall respect the rights of all other vehicles on the road."

Here are MSF recommendations:

I would update those MSF guidelines to suggest choosing a leader and tail with helmet communicators. It makes it easy to keep the group together or get it back together after a stop light. The traffic around here is thick and cars will get mixed in with the group. I don't let it bother me because they will either turn off or pass the group. Besides, trying to intimidate cars to stay out of the group only works up to a point.

Hmmmm. Might be worth further exploration. I do have a couple of thoughts and concerns. I propose we make it a topic at the next club meeting.

Most of that works, though BMW riders tend to keep to much smaller groups.
