R1200RT Tankbag options?

Postby radon222 » Thu May 10, 2012 2:38 pm

Hey folks,

Since our old magnetic tank bags won't work on the 12RT...it looks like its shopping time. When we were picking up the bike at Bob's, I had them bring out the BMW tank bag that snaps in to place so that Cindy could check it out. Well...lets just say that height of the BMW bag isn't anatomically compatible with the rider  . So we're on to plan B.

What are you all using?? Strap-on bags or the tank-ring adapter mounts????

I use the gas tank ring mount. I like it because it's so quick and easy to remove for the gas fillups! I also like that I can take the bottom ring off and put it on different tank bags if I want to switch them out for any reason.

Right now I can't find the "right" tank bag for ME but I do like the ring mounts.

Good luck!

I have the smaller Touratech bag meant for the RT: http://www.touratech-usa.com/Store/PN-6 ... MW-R1200RT
It's perfect for my needs (essentially hold my folding cane and other small items).

The towering BMW tank bag from hell was waaaaay too much for my needs.

If the tank bag interferes with the rider's operation of the bike, you might want to consider a tail bag. I've used tail bags on my last 4 bikes. The BMW Soft Bag 2 is quite nice and about $175 for the small (36 liter) version. It fits on quite a few bikes (I switch it between my F800R and my KTM Supermoto - takes 30 seconds). It has a rock-solid attachment and is 100% watertight. Highly recommended. There are other tailbags available at lower costs. Scott

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

Scott... the very first farkle that I installed for her was a Givi topcase mount plate and she will end up with an E55 Maxia hard case on the back. She uses a tankbag to keep a few things closer to hand, like glasses case, cell phone, lip gloss...and other girly type stuff :purdy:

Hi all.
I'm a BMW newbie looking for advice on a really small tank bag for a 08 R1200RT. By small, I mean really small, just something big enough to put a wallet and iPhone in. I use Waze on my iPhone as a GPS and until now have been using a small GIVI clear screen pocket thingy that is velcro'd across the bars.
Any tips on something proprietary that might do the job?

Might want to check out the Cortech Micro:

I have a Cortech tank bag and am happy with it. Quality seems very good for the price.

That could be an option - does it use the attached railing or something different to attach?

Mounts with straps or magnets and both are included. The Cortech strap mounts all have quick release buckles though so it would probably be pretty easy to flip it out of the way for fueling.

More info here.
