Anyone Have Experience with Navigator IV?

Postby mjmorrismd » Fri Jun 10, 2011 9:04 pm

I am considering putting a Motorrad Navigator IV (and mount) on my new R1200RT. I dont have any experience with motorcycle navigation units. Does anyone have an opinion one way or another about this device, cost/benefit, pros/cons, etc.

Anything at this point helps in the consideration.

Cheers,
Matthew

I don't have any direct experience with NavIV, but just remember its built on the Garmin Zumo 660. Check out prices and reviews on that unit and see if the extra "BMW" buttons and pre-installed Dealer POI's are worth coin for the way you intend to use it. Oh yea... if it matters to you neither the NavIV nor the 660 are XM compatible.

Good luck!

Bought one a year ago and have been very happy with it, though I have no experience with anything else. Garmin Road Trip works well. I move it between my bikes, which is very easy since it just plugs into most newer BMWs. Like the 4 big buttons on the cradle. That alone was worth it to me.

How bright is the screen in daylight? My Zumo 500 can wash out in bright sunlight; I'm thinking (hoping) that the newer designs such as the 660/NAV IV may perform better in this situation. Scott

The screen can be pretty bright, but it still washes out sometimes. I sometimes change the angle of my RAM mount depending on the time of day/angle of sun, and that usually helps somewhat. Have thought about making a (Gorilla tape) visor for it. I actually saw a visor for sale somewhere, but can't remember where, but it wasn't specifically for a NavIV.
