N103 in the RAIN

SUCKS..

I had a 500 mile ride today, 90% of it in the rain. The helmet does NOT seal.. During the day, not TOO much of an issue other than the cold wet cheek pads.. but at night? Yeah, you CAN'T SEE.. kind of an important property of a helmet... visibility.. and talk about taking your mood and moral South QUICK.. Once it got dark had to stop every 1/2 hour or so to wipe off the inside of my visor.. and screwed up once and used gas station paper towels.. I don't know what those towels are treated with but they make what would otherwise be BEAUTIFUL rainbow halos around every point of light..

I'm not a happy camper.. NOTHING worked as promised today.. Stopped off at Mortons and bought new "waterproof" gloves for the ride to NC.. I swear to doG I wrung out a cup and 1/2 of water out of each one of them twice before I gave up and went back to my perforated Marsee leather gloves.. They got wet, but they didn't hold a gallon of water.. Powerlet adapator.. Yeah it gave up the ghost just when I needed it most..

Rode with my Olympia jacket and pants with liner, and they seemed to be working good until I stopped and realized the water was polling up in the seat of the pants and my ass was soaked..

NOT a good ride in the rain today..

I never had a helmet that didn't leak some. Return the gloves, forget about rainproof, buy a small rubber seal for the top edge of the helmet, and get some BMW or Darien overpants.

I use the Beadriders to keep my butt out of the puddle in the seat when it rains.

Yeah, I never met a pair of gloves that didn't eventually leak. I have to say my Shoei X-11 has been excellent in the rain. One would think with all the vents it'd leak like a sieve, but it doesn't and it doesn't fog to an annoying level and it stays pretty dry, snug and cozy. I learned a long time ago if you really want to be comfortable in the rain, a dedicated one-piece rain suit can't be beat for an all-day drencher.

Both flip-ups I've owned have sucked in the rain - Caberg Justissimo and Schuberth Concept (C2 I think). Shoei RF-1000 and Arai Quantum - MONEY in the rain, at least if the visor has some kind of anti-fog treatment or insert.

I use the Aerostich "three finger" overgloves for the rain - they work great and haven't ever had them leak. They're not nearly as weird to use as they look like they should be - figure you only use 2 fingers on the brake lever anyway, right?

The beads on the seat for the rain is a great idea!!

Yeah my Caberg leaked a bit. My RF-1000 was awesome in the rain. So far the MultiTech is also perfect in the rain.

Funny, my RF-1000 always leaks at the top of the shield. Not just rain, but also icy-cold air during winter. Neither of my Scorpions had an issue.

My experience with full face helmets is pretty much nil. So I can't say, but in the 5 different flip-face helmets I had they all pretty much sucked in the rain!

Neither my Quantum nor the Schuberth leak rain, at least not until I have to raise the visor to clear the fog
But after many trials I have finally found some actual "rainproof" gloves. At the 2008 SRR I bought a pair of the Held rain gloves with the bonded, form-fit Goretex and they are truly waterproof at least over 3-4 hours of moderate rain. They can feel clammy in warm rain, but this is alleviated by wearing silk or poly glove liners. A good product, but it's sold at German pricing . Scott

I'm satisfied with my Multitec. When I raise the faceshield to the first detent in town, to clear fogging, a little water gets in, but not bad enough to worry about. I don't need to clear the fogging on the road, venting takes care of it. The closed helmet is nice and dry.

I put the caberg away three helmets ago, but I missed the internal visor, why I went with the N103. My Caberg leaked just as bad and was NOISY. The N102 was an improvement on the Caberg as far as noise, but it leaked too.

I tried to ride back from the VT rally in the rain at night with the Caberg, and it was SCARY.. I bought an N102 when I got back.

I do have the one piece BMW rain suit.. $99, and the best money I've ever spent for the bike or riding. It kept me PERFECTLY dry yesterday driving back from NC in the rain.. Not a single spot of dampness on any of my clothes when I got into the house 10 hours, and 440 miles later.
