Denver and Minneapolis/St. Paul riding tips

I will be in Denver and Minneapolis for a week each beginning Aug. 23 to cover the presidential conventions. Okay, that's the bad news.

The good news is that my company has agreed to rent me bikes (BMWs to boot!) at each city to get around.

So, does anyone have any insight to riding either place? Any advice from great ride routes to kill a few hours (not on company time, of course! ), to whether I can park on the sidewalk is greatly appreciated!

PS I'll have a 1200GS in Minneapolis, still not sure what I'll get in Denver. If it's not a BMW, might be a Honda ST1300, or a DUCATI MULTISTRADA DS 1000 .... so I'm a winner either way!

Shouldn't be as long as the GS is equipped with the optional pontoons.

It sounds like you're flying in and then renting a bike to get around town? That's AWESOME! I've not been to Denver with a bike, but I remember Minneapolis being very easy to ride in, drivers not overly aggressive, etc.

Yep, flying in ... I thought about riding out there, but not enough time, and I doubt the company would pay my expenses getting out there. Good to hear re: Minneapolis!

A couple Ortleib dry bags filled with ping-pong balls strapped front & rear "might" provide sufficient flotation Don't omit the snorkel for air intake - Touratek would be your best bet. But seriously, it really is nice to be paid to ride bikes, isn't it? Scott

Yes, it will be wonderful to get paid to to ride! It's put a big smile on my face. I am hoping to break away from the blah-blah of the convention enough to take a ride in the Rockies in Denver, and I'm looking for something scenic in Minneapolis, too.
