RT to CS Conversion

Postby Mikepotter86 » Mon Feb 15, 2021 3:14 pm

Many of you have seen my RT, and many helped out when I refreshed it mechanically in 2013. I was living in an apartment then and couldn't have gotten it done with our the help of club members with space, lifts, and tools. JVB, Wes, Mark, Stewart, and others helped immeasurably. Much of what I have learned at tech days came in handy here. Thanks for always being such a supportive community.

After years of only riding it on cooler days, this fall as those cooler days turned cold I set myelf to refinishing it as an S - or more approporately a CS. I am sure I will hear "shame to waste a good RT" but the fairing went to good use and I tried to stay as faithful to the period correct "CS" as possible. I know I probably could have bought a CS for less than I spent making this happen, but this was my dads bike and a big part of who he was, and I want to keep it in the family and care for it. See some pictures below. I could not be happier with how it turned out.

A big thanks to Bob Flenner at Bob's Bodies in Jessup MD - a few doors down from the other Bob's for the amazing paint work.

Looking good. The handlebars look much lower. How much weight did you remove from the bike?

It was probably around 50-60 pounds that came off the bike total between the fairing and the rear rack, box, etc.

The bars are the same I have on my /5 - will see ho comfortable they turn out to be!

Consider bringing it to the Square Route Rally! It'd be great to see and hear about it - perhaps during tech day on Saturday!.

Will try, but no promises. I finished with "my baby" just before our baby arrived in February.

Might be able to swing a weekend by June, but definitely can't commit.
