SNAPPED OF BOLT

I just recently got a 2007 R1200GS with about 34K on it and it runs great. But yesterday I was moving the bike in the garage when I hear a soft thump and all of a sudden the clutch lever was frozen it would not budge. So when I started troubleshooting I notice the clutch cable was very loose. What I saw was the clutch release cylinder was just hanging there no blots in it at all !
So I found two bolts that were the right size but the bike on the centerstand got down on the floor and found one broken bolt head. (ah sh*t) I managed to get one blot in straight and tighten down so the clutch works again but the other side had the rest of the old bolt inside. I guess it had had only one bolt in it for a while.
I have never tried to remove a snapped of bolt from the back of a engine and I am not sure how much stuff I will need to remove in order to get a clean shot at it. I would appreciate any input on the best way to get the bolt out without ruining the threads . here is a picture of the unit out of the Haynes manual
thanks for your time
john

With the cover removed can you grab the broken bolt with vice-grips? If not, you would have to get access to drill a hole in the broken bolt for an extractor. That could be time-consuming.

It looks like the upper bolt is broken off. If so, the rear frame will need to be removed, and then you will have access to that bolt.

You may get lucky and that last forever on one bolt, but I wouldn't count on it.
