Transmission and Differential Oil

Postby jcabiles » Wed Aug 12, 2015 5:27 pm

I will be changing my '04 R1150 RT-P transmission and differential oil. The manual recommends SAE 90W, 80W, or 80W/90W. BMW Sport Touring Forum also posts a recommendation for Castrol MTX 75W-140 GL5.

Any other recommendations or suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

I like Mobil1 75W140 and use that most of the time. When I can find a good deal on it, I prefer to use Red Line Heavy ShockProof though.

BMW has changed their spec a few times over the years, but if you're using a name brand gear oil 80/90 or 75/140 will do just fine. The nice thing about your RTP is that you should be able to use just 1 quart for both the trans & the FD together.

Thanks Wes. The parts rep at Dulles also said 75W 140 was also acceptable.
