I am interested in obtaining a very good repair manual for a 1997 R850R. I have found 2 manuals available: 1 by Haynes and 1 by Clymer. If you have to own one, which is the better manual? Any other manuals out there I should know about?

I've found Clymer's to be far better than Haynes - that said I bought both :)

thanks ted!

For the Oilhead, I think the Clymer is very thorough. It depends on the bike, though... sometimes the Haynes is better.

Also, there's the BMW service manual, which you can get on CD. It's geared towards the pro, though, and doesn't give the bolt-by-bolt detail most people want. I think the aftermarket manuals are based on the BMW manual and then filled out with details of basic "good practice."

i called one of the local shops... they only carry Clymers for older bikes...

i went ahead and ordered both just to have the info at hand in case it is needed... thanks...
