Alive in Memphis (if this is what you call living!)

Postby RocketMan » Sun Sep 12, 2021 5:19 pm

The last week has actually been pretty decent temperature wise so decided to take a break form unpacking and ride a bit.
My first two official rides this morning.. (official as in more than 2 miles).

Went to a local park with a nice little lake and lots of ducks on the 125..

They have ducks in Memphis, three kinds even.

Then went for a ride west to the Miss. River just south of the TN MS line.

Hernando Desoto Park

And I even fond a hill, well, sort of

Image

Its actually just the eastern levy on the Miss River, but STF

and found a road with curves, 5 of them in 3 miles, Wow!!!

other than that, it was pretty much much straight lines and the road surface sucks, concrete is not a good a paving method once its starts to deteriorate, *sigh*

You may have the Memphis Blues, but at least you're not stuck inside of Mobile.

You may not find great twisties, but the Great River Road is worth some travel, in both directions. But it's true that you've got some travelling to do to get into country that isn't that flat - either W toward the Ozarks or E. But I'll bet there's plenty of affordable lodging and camping (especially when school's in session) in the national forests or up by Land Between the Lakes (worth a visit).

Going to Graceland?

And mark April 8, 2024 on your calendar, as a total solar eclipse will happen and the area of shadow will move through Little Rock, AR, Indianapolis, IN and Cleveland, OH - so you'll have a shorter ride to eclipse than we will.

Hope all the moving goes as well as can be expected.

Thanks! Done some of the Great River Road in 2011 which also share part of its route with Delta Blues Trail and Clarksdale is a 90 mile hop south (I'm a Huge blues fan) so.... MOA 2022 is also going close enough to ride to in a day on the SR and I haven't had a chance to hook up with the slash 5 black sheep group in years so...
Unpacking is the pits and hanging curtains for the wife is a pain ( don't tell her ) but eventually it will all come together and I have big back yard for my "Zen Garden" in a nice shady spot in one corner and maybe a nice water feature, i.e. pond and fountain.

RM,

Memphis, eh? RoadRunner Magazine has a ton of articles for touring around Nashville, Chattanooga, and the eastern part of Tennessee, but nothing for Memphis. Sorry about that.

However, I'm glad to see that you've started exploring. Going almost anywhere on a bike is still a worthwhile adventure.

Good luck getting settled in, and keep the pictures coming!

Rick
