TomTom Rider 550 GPS is on sale for $320

Postby bdimon » Tue May 18, 2021 1:00 pm

If you are looking for a motorcycle GPS that is a third of the price of the Garmin, TomTom has their Rider 550 on sale for $320 with the discount code "HAPPYBDAY21"

I have no interest in TomTom. I'm just very satisfied with my Rider 550 and wonder why Garmin costs so much more.

It does not play music or control cameras, just navigation and phone. TomTom is the vendor for the new BMW TFT Connected App navigation. Interestingly, the Rider 550 does better at plotting a traffic-free route and voice instructions than the BMW Connected App. :idk:

Which Garmin motorcycle GPS are you referencing for price comparison? Using amazon.com prices to get a quick ballpark I see Garmin motorcycle GPS's in the $360-$570 range but I don't see anything in the $960 range. I had to replace a Garmin motorcycle GPS and found a Garmin zumo 396 LMT-S on sale for $255 in March.

Well, Garmins have come down in price! Good to know. The last time I shopped for a GPS, the comparable Garmin was twice the price of the TomTom. I don't recall the model number.

I also prefer TomTom's interface and their MyDrive website and app over Basecamp.

Thanks for the response... I had thought the 1/3 price made the Garmins pretty high priced... might just be when we were looking at prices. The $360-$570 range I gave is higher than what I saw earlier in the year and I know I got lucky in finding the $255 price.

Basecamp is definitely a POS. :(

Try Rever or MyRouteApp. I bought both of them. MyRouteApp has a companion connector program to put the track on the GPS directly. You still have to do that import thing when you turn the GPS on.
