2007-03-12 Ft. Valley Revisited - By Rocketman

Took a really nice this past Sunday down Fort Valley and then along skyline and home. This week it was around 10 degrees warmer that last weekend when I took the same route, in fact the temps were perfect for riding through forests still in the clutches of winter and I encountered no traffic along either route. In other words it was perfect. I did go a ways up Woodstock Tower Rd, but then I saw a sign saying it was closed just where it turns to gavel and well, the Autobahn Pig isn’t the kind of machine you want to get stuck having to turn around on a hill, on gravel and only one lane! Oh, well, have to take the R100 up there again, you GS folks would probably have a blast on it, esp the ride down the other side to Rt. 11, several switch-backs and steep, I know, I did it once on the /7, quite challenging on a road bike!

So here is a selection of shots from the ride, some taken with the Nikon D80 and some with the P&S I just picked up. I had forgotten just how great a Fort Valley is and I found a few new roads toward the end of it just before 211.

Still a little snow around

Looking back across the valley from atop skyline at the mountains I had crossed over at the end of Fort Valley Rd before heading up Rt. 211 and skyline drive.

The next 3 are some old barns and buildings on the way home

And finally an old gas station with an old style pump no longer in service.
