F650 CS 2003

Hi,

I need help on how to take the battery off my bike for the winter. The space is too tight for the battery to come out. I am following the owner manual instructions but in vain.
Any tricks?

Thank you :?

Hmmm... if your not using it this season the battery in my Dakar died. Mine if I borrow it for a few months?

Anywho, try searching the forums over at the Chain Gang: http://www.f650.com. (I did a quick check of the FAQ and came up dry.

Pam? MV? Holly? Any words of wisdom?

No words of wisdom, but had the same experience... followed the directions in the manual, but could NOT wrestle the battery out. Gave up before I kicked the bike over in a tirade.

We never got the battery out of Pam's CS either, but I was able to get enough access to it to hook up the pigtail for a Battery Tender. And since the weather around here can be good enough to ride without much notice (Remember the most recent "Polar Bear Ride" ! Hah!) we preferred using the tender to removing the battery.

I dont recall the exact procedure but i think the stuff bay has to be removed. There is a 50megs PDF that can be found via google that is a spec'd down factory repair manual.

Other than that it wouldnt hurt to get a vw/audi solar charger onto the bike over the winter. Thats how i kept my dirtbike from dying on me.

If you have the accessory plug on your bike, you can get the BMW battery tender, hook it up through the plug, and let it trickle charge over the winter without taking the battery out. I had the same problem when I let my battery go flat once. I had a heck of a time getting the battery out. Finally I went and got the tender and solved the whole issue. I think it's like $80, but it is one of the best investments I have made so far.

I have found that wrestling with the battery once you have it unhooked will get it out. You have to woggle it straight up first so that it will clear the plastics that it sits in, then pull it out. It takes some time and effort but it can be done. It took me about 3-4 tries and a half hourr but I finally ot it out to top it off with distilled water. Hope you have some luck.
