Rain Suits

I was just thinking about whether I would need my rain suit this evening. The FieldSheer mesh riding suit just doesn't shed water like the FirstGear Kilimanjaro that I wear in cooler times.

To easily put on my rain pants, I slip a plastic grocery bag over my boot. The foot slides right through without getting caught up. I always have a bag since that is what I store the suit in in my saddlebag.

Knowing what your boots look like, it might be a good idea to leave that bag on them if it is raining!

oh, they are in good shape now. A little ShoeGoo and they are good as new. Well, maybe not new, but pretty dang good. They'll last the summer at least.

Knowing you, Mike, you will get at least another year out of them. Just NEVER try to clean them or they will fall apart. It's the dirt holding them, and your bike together!

Any recommendation on rain suits, or more important-what manufacturer to avoid? Include what you like/dislike and price range if possible.

I have mesh gear for really hot days and waterproof gear for the rest of the year. But, I don't have a "rain suit". I see them running from $20 to $200. Does anyone have points or a good link to a "buyers guide"?

Several of us like FroggToggs. They are made of Tyvek and are breathable and waterproof. I have tested mine in some pretty nasty stuff and haven't had problems. Don't fold up quite as small as some goretex stuff I have seen, but they are only about $75 for pants and jacket.

Don't know how well they will last long term, but I have worn mine probably a dozen times with no probs.

As a bump and update to this thread -

Feildsheer has redesigned their Mach4 Mesh Jacket again. It now comes with a rain jacket that is stored in a poachers pocket at the back of the jacket. This means that you can always have a windbreaker / rain cover with you - while using a mesh jacket with CE armour in it.

They are also making this year a 600 denier overpant for $50 that can be used with their mesh pants for a rain block or extra warmth.

Kinda silly posting this stuff in Febuary - but it all looks pretty good. I've seen the jacket and will be upgrading my Mach1. $50 for a waterproof layer that won't sweat you out and is actually an abrasive protector sounds like a good deal to me.

$59 worth of heaven. They are light, totally waterproof, and easy to store. They work well in winter as a windblock, and in summer don't cut off all breatcability. Probably the best piece of gear I ever got!
