2017 BMWBMW Square Route Rally Tech Day!

Postby JimVonBaden » Thu Apr 06, 2017 2:09 pm

Since there is no SRR thread, I thought I should post this here.

Instead of tech seminars, we decided that a tech day was a good idea. It will be held in the pavilion from 9-whenever we are done.

All the usual stuff will be done. I will bring a load of tools, including the old and new GS911s, a laptop, a throttle body sync Harmonizer, and all the specialized tools we should need.

You bring your bike, any consumables you will need (Oil, Brake Fluid, filter and parts), and we will have a good time. You should be able to do a full service in just a few hours on any 1994 to current R-series bike, plus other bikes as well.

It isn't required that you reserve a space, but it would be helpful to know what you would possibly be doing on your bike, and what kind of bike, so I can be sure to have all the tools you will need. Of course it is encouraged that you bring tools of your own so you know what you have is good enough, and can figure out what you are missing.

I look forward to seeing you there.

If anyone has large items (tires)or parts, they can be delivered to Battley Cycles by Wednesday May 31, 2017 and I will be happy to transport them to Camp West Mar!

Hey Drew, looking forward to coming again this year for the event. The boys at MoD hooked me up with a new R1200R so that will be my ride to the event. See you there.

Great idea, Jim. It's also great entertainment for those not in need of tech.
Will there be equipment to do tire changes?

Possibly, if more than one person needs it. I have to find someone to bring it up and back.

Just a bump on the tech day!

Let me know what you have in mind to do, and I will make sure to have the tools you need.

Thanks,

I'll need an engine oil change and a rear drive fluid change. I might need tires but do not yet know. I plan to drive a pick-up to Camp West Mar on Thursday. Can I transport anything for you?

Oil change is no problem, and I'll bring the tools. Tires are tricky. We need a compressor and tools. How about we do tires at my house, and the rest there?

That works. I'll order the tires. I'll be driving my truck up on Thursday. Do you need me to take anything for you?

I am confident I can carry all the tools and equipment I need.

Why don't you order your tires and have them sent to my house?

Thanks,

Jim, I had to get the tires last week because I taught a Total Control Class on Saturday and, well, I denied students who showed up with tires at the wear bars so I have to meet the same standard. :emb:

I still have to do the engine oil and final drive. I might also do an electrical outlet in the trunk but I am comfortable with electrical farkling.

See you this weekend.

Curious about a tire-change for an R100/7. Noticed my rear Lasertec is bereft of tread down the middle after a trip to Florida last month.

The problem is the compressor. I can bring levers and lube, but the lack of a reasonably decent compressor is an issue.

If you want, we can get together one day soon at my place and change your tire.

I'll bring up my compressor. It's only 8 gallons but it will be handy for people to top off their tires or fix a flat.
