Hall Effect Sensor Interchangeability
My bike is a 1999 R1100RT. How can I tell what type of plug the HES should have without taking my bike apart? I have a chance to pick up a used HES in good condition very inexpensively (like for postage!), but it has the rectangular plug (type-B), and not the 6-pole in-line plug (type-A).
Any chance that my harness (formerly an authority RT-P bike) has the later type rectangular socket? ...or will I have to splice the HES harness with the plug from my original HES in order to use it as a replacement part on my bike ??
MAXBMW parts fische lists both types for the R1150RT:
WITH 6-PIN FLAT-TYPE CONNECTOR :
01 12 11 2 306 137 IGNITION SENSOR 0.35 1 $300.80
CONNECTION FLANGE RECTANGULAR PLUG :
02 12 11 7 673 277 IGNITION SENSOR 0.35 1 $312.86
and the diagram is the same for the R1100RT showing both parts, but only the 6-pin flat plug is listed in the parts list...
I am kinda hoping that IF and WHEN I have to change the alternator belt, I can upgrade the HES without too much trouble.
