Thinking Outside the Box - MD RTE

Postby PhilAger on Sun Apr 29, 2012 2:21 pm

Hey Ya'll:
I've attended my share of MD RTE's, but they're Never, Ever in our neck of the woods. So put on your little thinking caps, and see what ya'll think of this proposition (BUT IT NEEDS TO BE A WEDNESDAY -- Not Tuesday, MAY 16th!) because they're closed on Mon-Tue.

I’d like to nominate the “Proud Mary Restaurant” at a Fort Washington Marina for May’s RTE. Ya’ll can decide if you’re up to an evening’s get-together in “our little neck of the MD woods.” As far as we know, it’s a decent restaurant with a fine view of Piscataway Creek (right off the Potomac River -- haven't eaten there yet this year). Here’s the directions according to the restaurant’s website: http://proudmaryrestaurant.com/directions.html but your GPS just might direct you along another, more interesting route (as our's so often does). Just think of it as a test to find a bonus location in the Cape Fear 1000!

They claim to offer a variety of Southern and Cajun Cuisine (but I couldn’t view their menu online). For "TIKI WEDNESDAY"... They say come and listen to some Caribbean music and enjoy $5 Appetizers and Drink specials from 4 to 8 (Tiki Bar Only). They’re at 13600 King Charles Terrace, Fort Washington, MD, 301-292-5521 [N38 42 10.8 W77 01 22.6 ]. They're "just around the corner from "The real Fort Washington." Note that the restaurant is in a busy boatyard whose parking lot foundation is simply compacted gravel. If you steer right across the front entrance to the big brown building/restaurant, you’ll find some extra room for maybe 8-10 cars. If we’re lucky, maybe a few bikes can block some spaces for many more bikes.

They’ll hold a table if the reservation is for more than ten. Your thoughts??? I'll make the reservation if it's > 10. Seriously, it is nice to sit out back and watch the sun set over the water IF THE WEATHER COOPERATES... [-o<

I'd be up for that. Been there in my wandering around but never stopped to eat.

Anyone is welcome to add in additional RTEs to the pre-planned schedule. Pick a date with enough notice and see who signs up!

Hey I ride through Ft. W all the time to go visit James and Joelle. If we hit it just right, we may even be able to get the newlyweds to come join us.

Set it up Phil - let's try it :TheTina:

It would be nice if you could make it to a MD RTE, TIna (even if you're a Poke Fan).

So you visit with James & Joelle in Ft Wa (who might they be)... :?: Hope there's a BMW connection there somewhere.

IF Wes could pack his "monkey" in her "tub", then that means we're up to possibly Six Folks. We need ten to start getting serious about Reservations.

But nobody has proffered an alternative for May yet. We may be onto something...

Hey Wes -- Liked the coverage concerning Sidecars in the BTS. It made me wonder if you'd contacted or heard from these club members (either active or lapsed): I NOTED YOU WERE UNABLE TO GET INTO THE GROUP SHOT? Oh well - next time we hope. How about: Terry & Joyce Barnes (They always win the mileage contest!), Jim "Fletch" Fletcher, Anton Largiader (think he has an antique race hack), George Mangicaro, JEFF MASSEY, Linda Mooney, Lewis "Lew" Nalls, and Harold "Red" Sciarra? Hope these folks hear about your heightened interest in 3-wheelers maybe when visiting a dealer or reading the Spokes online!

It's early yet!
Keep those votes coming in Folks!
Ciao!

Well Folks, it's about time to fish or cut bait.

We'll be there at the Proud Mary at 18:30 on Wednesday, and hope a few more folks show up. It seems we have a definite maybe of just six people so far. I think the weather should clear up nicely by Wednesday.

Check out the link in my post above for directions (it is way at the very end of the road near Fort Washington, Beside The Water, Egh!)

Hope a few of you will make the effort to slog through the rush hour traffic on Indian Head Highway south. Let your GPS take you on a back road's excursion...

Cheers!

I was in touch with several people you mention, plus some others, that either weren't able to come or weren't interested in attending. Some I heard back from, some I did not.

I wasn't in the group shot I ran in the magazine - I took it from Bob's balcony, looking down on the group & there wasn't enough time to run through the house & get in the shot :D We did another group photo that I was in, but IMO the one in the magazine was the better shot - and not just because I wasn't in it!!

We'll be there, Mark is coming, and we've go a big "Probably" from Wes (he should bring his Monkey). If no others show up, then it may be one of the least supported R2Es ever...

But Maria did say on Saturday that many people decide whether to attend at the last minute depending on their mood and that of the Weather Gods. If you've got some petrol in the tank, then take note of the GPS coordinates and come meet us by the creek... :) You'll meet a few club members, find a meal worth eating, and you'll have something to report to your Other Riding Buddies about a Ft Washington restaurant!

Ciao!

We hope to be there too. I just looked at their website and it looks like Thursday is their "bike night and ladies night". Maybe we should try Thursday next time?

Out :( There's a fundraiser tonight I just found out about for the kids of a friend of mine that passed unexpectedly a couple months ago.

Ya'll Don't Know What You Missed!

Actually, the seating beside the Fort Washington Harbor was quite nice this evening; too bad the Kitchen staff was "Out to Lunch." #-o Phil & Karen, Mark Estes, and Kimo & Noki Lee waited for ~40 minutes, with multiple apologies, before the chicken wings, spinach dip, calamari, and sliders finally appeared (with our helpless waitress and the evening manager). The food was good, but the kitchen staff was having a horrible night! :flask: And the DJ behind the bar was playing some LOUD Funky music for some woman's birthday. We settled up as soon as we could and then rolled up Fort Washington Road to the Bangkok Golden restaurant (where the service was excellent as well as the food and charming company). I tried to shake things up a bit, but there are many Northern Marylanders who didn't want to ride to southern Prince Georges for May's R2E. My first and last attempt at a Maryland Ride-to-Eat...

Here are some pictures of our gathering:
L-2-R: Karen, Kimo, Noki, Mark, and Phil awaiting our appetizers (since they were half-price until 7PM - the DJ said so many times).
Image

Mark requested a shot showing some of the harbor (southeast with Mount Vernon somewhere across the river).
Image

Phil took this shot while there was still some daylight with which to shoot (that's still the Maryland shore in the distance).
Image

There are some fancy houses around a golf course up the creek there; only 7.5 miles south of Washington D.C. and the Wilson Bridge.
Image

See some of you out at the Morton's Spring Fling -- Supposed to be a FUNTASTIC weekend!
Ciao!
