Now for the fine tuning. This is likely where the build really slows down!

What kind of flooring is that? Freaking beautiful....

VCT, Vynle Composition Tile. It is what you see in industrial, retail and hospitals. It is 1/8" thick, and heavy stuff. One box of 45 12X12 tiles weighs 60 pounds. I got a great deal on it, and the whole floor cost under $200.

Thanks,

So it wasn't a Racedeck floor? I just looked up that link based on your design specs... did you just user their designer without ordering the materials from them? I'd be really curious where you went for that stuff. My wife and I are going to be buying a place soon, and one of my requirements is a garage... but I'm guessing it won't be finished, of course.

There is a local suplier that has a lot of it at great prices. You can get it at Lowes or Home Depot for about $.80 a square foot,, but my suplier has it for half that. Let me know and I would be happy to lend a hand, install too.

PS Yes, I used RaceDeck web site to do my layout since it is the same 12" square layout.

It has begun!

Started like this:
Image
Image

Then added this:
Image

Then brought in these guys:

And this happened:
Image
Image

I went for these for the drainage:
Image

They moved on and did this:
Image
Image

In the back they are filling in the swamp with the excess:
Image

After 9 hours we had this:
Image

There were two issues, a really poorly laid cable by Comcast, and very crappy asphaut over concrete:
Image

Tomorrow they install the retaining wall and dig up the back yard for the patio.

Morte to come.

PS In the middle of this I was assisting a new friend with a 24K service:

Jim,

Well, I guess it's inevitable--but hopefully not for a very long time! :eekers:

Seriously, your ability to tackle any project (or is it every project??) never fails to amaze me.

Finished for the day:

Not bad. They need to cut a few small blocks to fill the holes (this is part of the "random pattern), and a few small filler cuts, then sweep in the sand and they are basically done.

I think it looks good.

In the future, the driveway itself will come out and more pavers go in.

PS Tomorrow, the rear patio!

The front is done, minus landscaping.

The back is getting close.

OK, so a final set of photos for the project, minus ladscaping.

Next, this weekend, we do some simple landscaping to clean it up, then we are done.

Overall cost, about $5400 materials, $3800 labor, and $2100 rock, sand, and machine rental.

Not bad for about 1350 square feet of coverage, and a retaining wall, plus drains.

The wife and I did some landscaping, and added the end wall to the retaining wall to cover the neighbor's ugly wall back side.

Still needs more rock fill, and we are getting sod for on top next weekend!

That's really cut down on the amount of mowing you'll have to do!! I bet you'd be able to get by with one of those old-fashioned push-mowers and a little weedeater.

LOL We will replant the back yard next week, and add a bit of grass in front, but it cuts the green space in half. Still quite a bit.
