Front wheel removal help with tools

Does the club or a club member have a front wheel stand and axle tool to remove the front wheel from a R12RT? If there is a safe alternate method to special tools, I'm interested. Jim

As long as you need the giant internal 18 or 22mm thing to get the axle out, I have that. I don't have a stand, though.

We have a tech day coming up - is this an emergency? Can it wait til the 18th? If not I can figure out a way to get you the tool sooner.

The club does not own these tools, but many members do. Wes is spot on - you're likely to find someone willing to assist at a Tech Day or to coordinate handoff/assist with the job.

Thanks for getting back to me. Its not an emergency but I have to do it by next Friday evening. I'm in Bowie MD so getting a tool from VA might be too much trouble unless you work on the Hill. Even then with parking etc, its not worth the hassell and I wouldn't want to ask someone to make a special trip. Maybe there is a club member in MD that has the socket or stand.

I did some research and it looks like you can use a spark plug socket for the 22mm hex/allen for the axle. This I have, and Bob's sells a set of sockets for around $23 bucks which is the correct tool. I hate to buy a tool I'm only going to use once every three years so I may go with the spark plug socket if I can't borrow the right tool locally. The stand would be nice but I see a lot of people just use a scissor jack and threaten the kids not to tip the bike over. Anyway, thanks for the offer but I'll see if someone nearby has either of these things.

I just use a small piece of wood against my crossover tube, and the back side of the 13/16" spark plug wrench.

I cut the end off to make it easier to carry, but you do not have to.

I've got the secret gizmo if you want to borrow one. I also just use a jack & a chunk of wood for support to remove/install.
