2011 Iron Butt Rally (I'm out)

Postby Sonar on Tue May 31, 2011 9:24 am

Posted to 2011 IBR Facebook page

Just to let anyone who cares know. I broke my hand pretty badly on May 26th and have had to withdraw from the action this year. After much thought, I have reached the conclusion that there is no way I can safely and competitively ride the rally nor the 2800 mile ride to the start and then 2800 miles home with a cast on my hand. So everyone ride safe and maybe I will see you in Buffalo.

Hey Don - sad to hear your hand is messed up! Let me know if you ... uh ... need a hand with anything :) There'll be other IBR's to run!

Don--I'm so sorry about your hand! I was looking forward to tracking you and Nancy along the route. I hope you heal quickly.

Don:

I know the decision process you have gone through, BTDT. It is not easy and you will be telling yourself for quite a while that you could have done it and you should not have dropped. From someone who has been there - try to just let it go. It won't be easy, but there will be other IBRs - especially for a rider of your caliber.

Oh, man, that's too many kinds of pain, but I gotta believe you made the right decision. Heal well. :)

Damn, Don, that's a shame. But it's the right decision - and you'll get another shot at it, I'm sure. Heal up fast!
