October 2010 High-Point Tour

Postby apastron on Wed Nov 17, 2010 10:55 pm

In October, I took a series of day-trips to the high-elevation points of PA, MD & WV. My sister's house near Augusta, WV was my FOB (Forward Operating Base). I tried to time the weekend for peak fall colors, but I think I was about a week early. Here are some of my fav's, in no logical order...

Tuscarora Mountain, PA -- complete with hang-glider dude...
Image

The ancient ruins (lol) at Berkeley Springs, WV...
Image

The highest damn tree in PA. Not the "tallest", but since it's the tallest on Mt. Davis, it's the highest...
Image

From atop Mt. Davis, PA...
Image

Obnoxious timer shot from the tripod - High Point Lake, PA...
Image

High Point Lake, PA...
Image

Somewhere in Somerset Co., PA - where I thought I was lost but wasn't. WTH is with PA and not putting up road signs?...
Image

Image

My cousin-in-law's restaurant in Kitzmiller, MD. Go there; eat; repeat as necessary. Best pizza around... of course, there's not a lot of pizza around...
Image

Obnoxious self-portrait in the look-around...

View from Spruce Knob, WV. No picture will ever do it justice...

Nice pics, where's the ancient ruins shot taken?
Did you take a dip in Geo Washington's bath tub while there?

Thanks guys!

RM: It's on rte. 522, south of the silica mine, north of rte. 9. I believe it shares the lot with a VFW post (?). Didn't see the bathtub, but I go through there a few times a year -- it's on my list.
