day tripping airhead style, again

Stop and smell the roses, and while you're at it take a picture or two.

day tripping airhead style, again

Postby RocketMan on Tue Nov 02, 2010 7:23 am

being in the mid 50's with mostly sunny skies and a nice breeze to keep the roads clear of leaves I decided to burn up a tank of gas while doing the NOVA tag this past Friday. Wondered up and down between Remmington, along Freemans Ford Road to Rt 211 and past that till I came to Leads Mannor, running that to 55 then back toward 211 on several interconnecting roads between the two, 55 and 211, that is. Found a nice little ride along Free State Road over one of the small hills in between 55 and 211.

My favorite, nicely done!

There were a couple that were a bit overdone, but I really love the fall colors, and you captured them nicely!

Thanks for sharing!

Tanks! That is some pick your own farm toward the end of Leads Mannor near 55 (If I remember correctly)

yeah some were/are a bit over done; some were not HDR, (most of the first ones) neither single or multi-image, some were multi a few single HDR (toward the end). some were just run thru LightZone which I am still testing/learning and again they look a lot diferant at work than home due to laptop/desktop monitor settings. those are the ones that have a bit too much saturation using the Zone system in LightZone.
I still have to configure the laptop, its got a NVidea card (which is a great brand) that can be fine-tuned for color properties and I think its also a brightness issue/viewing angle thing with the laptop. There also seems to be diferances in the colormaps in the Linux tools, (and I suspect that being less used by most folks that makes the diferances more appearant as well). Generally laptops are frowned on for graphics work but I like the mobility of it so I just have to adapt its graphics setting. Much as I wish there was a one setting fits all for imaging, single, HDR, tone mapping or just simple saturation that just ain't case so I'm still working on basic settings for similar images, then I can spend more time on fine-tuning (its a geek thing!) But I have to say in the last 2 months I've learned WAY more about imaging than I ever would have had I stayed with the "old school" tools!
What it looks like though is i need to tone-down saturation and one of the two overlays for the HDR work some when viewing them at home.

or I could just throw out the linux and just go with Winderz....

naw, ain't happening....

I like the bottom one best. What happened to the top of the top one?

yeah, i do too, its set at about 50% for each overlay and I changed the mannor in which each overlay is redenered. I think when I was working with the layers one of them got misaligned in the top image.

as a matter of personal taste, I like the overexposed look on some of them, as if done stylistically

yup, when viewed as art, photography is as much about instilling an emotional reaction or capturing a certain "feel" or impression of the scene as it is about recording a moment in time. I think that is what distinguishes a "Photograph" from a "Snapshot". One of the things I enjoy about photography is that offers so much potential for "interpretive" presentation not simply an exact copy of the scene, just there are many styles of painting or music, etc. Photography having entered the digital age has made that aspect of photography much more readily accessible for the “hobbyist” (and a lot less messy!).

RM,

Some really nice pictures here--thanks for posting (and providing the background on the HDR aspects).

I very much liked the s-curve w/ old buildings that Kitty and others spoke of--but the railroad tracks w/ fall colors is my favorite.

And as for your three overlay variations, I like the top one best.

Keep up the great work!

Tanks, Rick

Stands to reason (knowing your word) that you'd like the top of the three best! :)
