S 1000 RR After Hours

Postby stevebmw on Thu Jan 07, 2010 1:18 pm

We're hosting a very special S 1000 RR event after closing on Saturday, February 20.

Starting at 4 pm, we'll offer an exclusive program of information and hands on setup, featuring Nate Kern and others, on the new superbike. Nate, Stuart Beatson (who will have returned that morning from BMW technical training), and others will show you how to set the suspension for your style of riding and give you all sorts of other tips on the new bike. Those who have their S 1000 RR by then and those waiting for one -- whether buying from us or not -- and all those just curious about the new machine, are invited to come for the presentation and enjoy pizza and sodas on us. Check out the new bike and all the accessories currently available for it and its riders at this fun and free event. There may even be a few surprises!

If you want to participate, please send an e-mail to my work account (steve@mortonsbmw.com) -- don't just tell me here. If you put "S1000RR" in the subject line, it'll make it even easier for me to count the number of folks coming. I'll need to know how many pizzas to get :D

He was walking -- albeit with crutches -- when he and Nate were in here around the holidays. He told me then that he didn't really need them, he just needed his doc's approval to ditch the crutches.

We've got a bunch of confirmations so far, and I'll be sending out a reminder to everyone on our e-mail newsletter list today. It should be fun. We'll have Nate here, of course, plus Stuart will be back from S 1000 RR school at BMW that morning, so you can have pretty much any questions you have about the S 1000 RR answered by the folks who know. For anyone interested in the new bike, this is a great opportunity to get some in-depth info. Plus, we'll have pizza :D

I can just see rat races this summer on the new section of 55 slab in WV...

Wide Open, no traffic and virgin asphalt (well concrete actually..) nice long sweepers and long slow hills

If I can hit 95+ (up hill, no less!) on my 78 on there (a few weeks before the snow hit and right after I turned 1K with the new motor) I'll bet those babies could go pretty much flat out and bury the speedo with ease

Sign me up. Steve Kennedy is coming as well. He has been walking normally and rode a dirt bike for a while.

We'll have another guest at the After Hours session. Dominick Anderson -- no relation to me -- will be in attendance, perhaps with his crew chief. Dominick will be piloting an S 1000 RR this year in AMA Pro Drag Racing, sponsored by, you guessed it, Morton's BMW!

We are really excited about our venture into drag racing, a field we've never tried before. We've won in road racing with Nate and we've won off-road with David White. Let's hope we win in the 1/4 mile with Dominick.

Dominick has been racing Suzukis until now and, after talking with us and the guys at BMW, he's decided to give the S 1000 RR a shot. So be sure to introduce yourself to him this Saturday and we hope some of y'all will come out to watch him race this year. I'll be posting much more race info soon.

So what track are you going to? back in the 70's a friend that had a Kaw Z1 used to go to the 75-80 dragway in Md and I acted as his pit crew; pretty fun stuff and he was in a way responsible for my buying a Z1A in 74. Back then 12.8-12.4 was considered pretty fast for the 1/4 mile on a stock bike.
Post a schedule when this happens I'd enjoy seeing what they can do today.

See you guys at Morton's tomorrow at 4pm. I may go for a ride earlier.
