See, now if you'd been on a BMW...

Tourances and sand make for a pretty tricky combo. If I do my 'cross Labrador trip, I'll probably opt for a pair of Conti TKC80s (and run them below street pressure settings when off-road). I expect I'd be hitting about 1,500 miles of dirt and gravel, and I need all the help I can get :D

BillyB & Co.,

I'm impressed that, before the crash, you were going so fast that it blew the numbers right off your license plate!

Also I want to do some of those Iron Butt thingies. 50cc anyone? 8)

Firebird wrote:...Anyone been to Denmark? I'm thinking about going and renting a motorcycle to ride.

I've been to all 4 Scandinavian countries (5 if you include Iceland). Definitely the best riding (by far) is found in Norway. Most recent trip was an 10 day ride on an RT from Trondheim to Nordkapp. Included the Arctic Highway (aka Blood Road), Lofoten archipeligo, Alta, Tromso, with 2/3 of the trip north of Polar Circle. Minimal traffic - maybe 10 - 20% of traffic is on a bike esp in the north - well-maintained roads consisting of endless sweepers plus a few switchbacks if you head into the mountains, sane drivers (as opposed to the Italian Alps), and $12 beers  Everyone speaks English. The best ride of my life. As for Denmark - ehhh - not all that diff from northern Germany. It's a short hop from Copenhagen to Kristiansand Norway where you could get a rental bike. Do a few days on the south coast heading northwest towards Bergen and then turn east into the famous fjords. Or you could go north from K'sand thru Telemark to avoid ferries. Lots to see. A round trip from K'sand to Nordkapp back to K'sand would require 15 - 30 days (this ISN'T a country with interstate highways - 60 kph would be a good average speed).
If you don't have the option of time, then a ride on the coast of Denmark could be an interesting first taste of Scandinavia.

Overall, I just want to ride more and have a safe year.
I've had the Finger Lakes rally on my list for years, never been. Need to fit it in.
I'm trying to plan a trip to Seattle with Andi, to include a run to the MOA rally.
Also had the SS1000 on my list forever...no doubt I can do it, just need to make time.

I hope everyone has a safe year as well, and that when we revisit this list in a year, we're all happy with 2010. :D

My brother and I are talking about meeting up for a ride to Key West sometime during the summer.

I'd like to go back to Mid Ohio for the Indy Car race in August or the NASCAR race at Watkins Glen.

I think a run to Frankfort, KY to more bourbon and cream liquer is in the works.

Most importantly, I want to do more track days. I finally have a mechanically sound bike and want to get out to Summit Point about 5-6 times this summer.
Be sincere, whether you mean it or not.

The trip has had all kinds of awesomeness...

My awesome leg from Key West to Orlando started like this...
Image

About 7 hours into my trip I felt my right foot peg was super slippery and I smelled gas. I was on the Florida Turnpike and saw an exit for an awesome metropolis called Yeehaw Junction. At an awesome truck stop in Yeehaw Junction, I called an awesome lady at Progressive who introduced me to Jason, my riding partner for the last 60 miles to Orlando...
Image

Despite losing a few quarts of gas, I still was able to get awesome gas mileage...
Image

The folks at BMW Orlando truly were awesome and had me back on the road in 45 minutes.

My 2004 K1200GT has (had) a plastic fuel line connector that sometimes cracks. The replacement connector is metal, although there appears to be no service bulletin on replacing the original one with the metal one. Why they don't just routinely change it out at the 12 or 24K service is a mystery to me. If you have a part that is subject to failure why not just replace it proactively? Anyway, the folks at BMW Orlando pulled me off the rollback at 5:15 on Friday evening and as I left and drove past the dealership, they were turning off the lights 6:00 PM.

Key West and Hell look familiar! :-)

I did my first SaddleSore of 2010 on January 1, arriving in Key West mid-morning January 2.

Swung through Hell on the fly up/ride home trip from picking up the bike in Wisconsin.

Trying to figure out how to post pics.
