READ ME - Forum Rules

Postby landofjeremy » Tue Dec 11, 2007 9:49 am

Welcome to the BMW Bikers of Metropolitan Washington's discussion board. The bmwbmw.org website is a tool for the club to communicate with its members and this discussion board is the primary tool for members to communicate with each other while online.

1) Posting Guidelines for ALL AREAS - These rules are in effect in every area of the forum, with the exception of members only forum "The Final Drive" which contains its own guidelines. Instructions on how to access Final Drive is at the end of this post.

2) Posts, avatars, and signatures with religious or political opinions / statements are not permitted. You'll be asked to edit your post from a moderator by a PM. If you don't edit it within a timely manner, the post will be edited or moved to Final drive, whether you have access to that forum or not.

3) Baiting or just being a trouble maker is looked down upon. If you come here just to get under someones skin for your own gratification, you will be warned and upon further infractions, your account will be suspended for maybe a day, maybe a week. If you persist in connecting with your psychological weaknesses, you may want to consider starting up your own discussion boards because you won't be part of ours for long.

4) Flaming - Witty responses and digs are fine as long as they are good natured. If you post with looking for a fight and get others to join, parties will be asked to cool off via PM. If you really disagree with someone, use PM. Or for the entertainment of everyone else, call them out in final drive where there's more latitude. Personal attacks carry the same penalties as baiting. So you may want to not do it.

5) Other inappropriate posts (overly sexual posts, excessive cursing, etc) just isn't smart. Everything's online these days and your offensive post will be there forever for your future employer / spouse / detective / fully evolved pet to find. You will be asked to remedy your post otherwise you can find it in Final drive.

6) Nudity - Shamlessly copied from Advrider: Nudity. If it's see-thru enough, it's gone.

7) Questionable links - not that there's a question about what's behind the link, but if there's a question of whether anyone might get fired over viewing it at work. Please mark these links as NSFW (not safe for work) if there's video or audio that could be offensive to your fellow members HR manager.

8) Organization of an Illegal Activity - Stealing, street racing, planned trespassing and other illegal activities will NOT be organized using this message board. If we discover communication on this message-board attempting to recruit or organize illegal activity it will be deleted.

9) Repeat offenders to any of the above rules are subject to the wrath of the suspension button at the mods and site administrators determination. So be good.

10) Got a Problem? - Send a PM to the Site Admin. Currently that's me, landofjeremy adooley. Everything from new forum requests, to things your not comfortable with. The occasional Kudo is good to - let's us all know that we are running this thing in the right direction. If you want the topic to be discussed OPENLY then post it to the Suggestions section.

Editing Posts - The ONLY case in which moderators will manually edit a post is to correct an IMG tag or a QUOTE tag. We will also correct or delete a post if requested to BY THE AUTHOR. If this rule is ever violated, report the incident to the site administrator.

Reporting Posts - If you see a post that you believe violates these rules, you are able to report a post to the moderators for further action (see the image used for reporting a post below.) Moderators appreciate your help in reporting these posts but do not abuse this.

Deleting / Moving Posts - if a post or thread breaks the rules of the forum, the mods have the right to delete offending posts. As a courtesy, the Moderators will try to copy the post and PM it to you to re-work it. We don’t enjoy deleting / censoring posts, so our first course of action will be to try to have the original poster to edit it if possible. If appropriate, the next action will be to move it to Final Drive. If your post / thread is deleted, don't take it personally. Posts may also be deleted without warning if it's warranted.

Questions / comments / suggestions? Post to the Site Suggestions if you're ok with everyone seeing your thoughts, otherwise you can PM me and I'll do what I can to help. Especially if you have a problem with online actions of a fellow board member or mod, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Other stuff

To access Final Drive, send an e-mail to finaldrive@bmwbmw.org :

your address.

You can now display flash files in your posts (whoohoo!!) Use the [ Flash ] command in your post as detailed below. Please do not abuse this new feature. Keep your videos to 640 x 480 maximum. Moderators will go in and adujust this if the movie you're displaying is not in compliance with this setting.

You will need to know the actual URL for the flash file. For example, if you copy a embedded url that youtube provides, you'll see it in the following location:
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/XylcLm-gc-Y&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/XylcLm-gc-Y&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

So here on the forum, you'd use the following syntax
[ Flash=400,300]http://www.youtube.com/v/XylcLm-gc-Y&hl=en&fs=1" [/ flash ] which, when you remove the spaces, will display

Forum rules updated Sept 15 08

Please read them. Most notable changes include a no trouble makers rule and clarification of using political and religious images in your avatars and signatures, among other minor tweaks.
