MotoGP you have to be boinking someone important to get into the Pits and it's for a limited time I believe. There is waaaaaay to much money invested to let the general public fondle it.

At Daytona last year and at VIR in years past you could get right up to the garage and team trailers/tents and watch a mechanic from 8 feet away as he fiddled with the bikes. You could get run over by a sweaty rider riding his scooter back from the pit and you could watch the team eat lunch. Standing there and observing what goes into a race team and how all the pieces come together makes the whole race experience personal, fun, and interactive. Most of the privateers are happy to have someone come up to them and pay them some attention. I've seen guys pulling a 16 foot trailer with a leisure van beat some of the factory teams with multiple 45 foot big rigs and motorcoaches. As far as I'm concerned, motorcycle racing in the US has a very small fan base and I feel a sense of community at the races. Isolating the race teams from the fans is a mistake. I hope this is a Daytona only rule and not the norm for this race season.
