Michelin PR3 Review

Postby henwin » Sat May 05, 2012 5:33 pm

There's a nice review--so far (not much mileage, yet)--of a set of Michelin PR3 tires on webBikeWorld: http://www.webbikeworld.com/Motorcycle-tires/michelin-pilot-road-3/ :D

I'm on my second set of the PR3's - I replaced the original PR2's that were on the bike new. It's a 2009 R1200RT. I think I swapped the first set out at around 8,000 miles which was way too early but I had some big trips planned. I'm think I should be able to easily get over 10,000 miles on these and maybe 12,000. I'll order new ones as I get closer to the change interval. In the Spring the PR3's were on backorder from many places so make sure you order early. I think they have become a popular tire.

I'm ridden in rain and snow (not much and it was for a brief period) and agree they are great in wet weather.

Just got 12,000 out of a set. Great sticky tires. Total confidence in rain. Lots and lots of rain. Front tire was bald on the sides - a little tread left in the center (???). There was still plenty of tread on the rear, but it was squared off. I hate that - handles weird - so I replaced that one too. Giving some Pirelli Angel ST's a turn now ("Hey look - It's an angel in the tread!" I know, I know... )

I put a new set on in January and have nearly 10K miles on them and haven't even noticed a difference. I didn't realize how many miles until this thread! That says a lot because I'm usually pretty sensative to tires. I'm liking these PR3's!

I'm curious. What exactly goes in the "Reviews" section?

Love the PR3s on the RT. Excellent in the wet, great grip in the dry, quiet, and very communicative. Not so good with tar snakes, but what motorcycle tire is?

I'm still riding on my first set of PR3s; I put them on over the winter. So far, they are working good. My initial impression is I like them better than the PR2s, which I only tried one set of. For some reason, I was never able to fully eat my chicken strips on the PR2s. I never had a problem with them slipping, but they never gave me the "warm and fuzzies" to keep pushing harder. I'll check my mileage later today to see what I have on the PR3s (probably a couple thousand miles) but so far they don't show any obvious wear patterns.

I'm curious why we still allow this? I thought the rule was that if you saw something wrong with a post, you were supposed to click on the "Report Post" button and ask the mods to move it, discretely, instead of calling people out on their mistakes? Isn't that why the "report Post" was added?

And now, back to our regularly scheduled (and relocated for your convenience!) topic. :D
I really liked the PR2 and used 3-4 sets of them on the 1150R. Never got a chance to try the PR3, but it sounds like they improved on a good thing.

I finally got my rear tire replaced. Over 11K on a rear Metzler Z6--that's more like it. =D>

Now I've got PR3 on both wheels so I'm curious what air pressures--the big people--are running? By big people, I mean those of us who weigh 200-210 lbs fully dressed (ATG).
