My Bike

Stop and smell the roses, and while you're at it take a picture or two.

Please, on your next pix posts, do not disclose exotic biking locations, you make us jealous

Awesome bike and welcome!

Lona's done the trophies for the Rockville Hooters Bike shows for the past several years. In 2006, my bike won the "open" class. I got a trophy (to keep) and two Hooters girls (temporarily). These are image thumbnails. Click on either one to see the full-size photo.

Gareth, Nice form....good head turn, nice body lean, and good foot position. How do you like the boxer in comparison to the K bike? Scott

Hey, I had an excellent ERC instructor!

As for impressions of the R1100S vs. K75S
Smoothness: the K was like glass, while the R has a thrum at speed--personal choice, but I found I do like the feeling of "large machine at work" when twisting the loud handle.
Power: the K made more than ample power for 1-up touring and 2-up afternoon rides, but the R feels like you could pull stumps. The first few times I rode it, I'd goose it at stoplights to make the bike kick a little sideways. This last weekend I did a 2-up camping trip, and the bike was totally unfazed.
Handling: The suspension on the K was great, but it was tall and carried some weight high. The suspension on the R is amazing, and though it's also a very tall bike, feels like it carries the weight lower. Initial turn-in for both bikes takes some authority, but once going the R really carves.
Overall: The K served me very, very well on some really long trips, was always a blast in the local corners, and demanded minimal maintenance, too. I hope I can say the same for the R in a few years. As of now, it's stupidly fun around here, and makes me smile everytime I see it. I think it is one of the best-styled BMWs, recognizing the obvious debt to Ducati, which doesn't hurt. I'm off to Deal's and the Smokies in a couple weeks, so will see about reporting on that outcome when I get back.

Cheers!

Google Earth's Street View photo vehicle nailed my bike the one time I parked in front of my building a few weeks ago.

Hello! Commuting on the R1200R has been a blast — taking it for the 600-mile service this week.
