Photo Challange II: Patina

Stop and smell the roses, and while you're at it take a picture or two.

Thats one of the main techniques that will make you a better photographer.

Okay, examining my portfolio - this exact subject is a almost completely missing. Sounds like a great excuse to saddle up for the day and do a field study. That recent picture of the run down statuary in a quiet cemetery is about all I have.

Time to add some width - and grab a few miles on the way.

the key word being "almost" ? just photoshop an old chruch into the background! like I said lets not sweat the details, but yeah sounds like a great reason to saddle up and go for ride (just in case riding ain't enough in itself  )

Here's an old David Brown (DB) tractor I saw in New Zealand.

The founder later bought Aston Martin, of sports car fame, and added the moniker DB-5, DB-7, etc., after his initials.

Oh wow... that's a great capture! You'd think the door frame or window frames would crack.

Nice! looks like the ground was sinking in the middle. Years ago there was a wooden framed house in G-town in DC right on the corner on a back street that had a "wave" for lack of a better term along the long side. The whole structure rose and fell a good two feet along its length yet the windows were intact (though I can't see how they could have opened). At some point it got straightened never did get a picture of it, it was very strange, something like this place in New Orleans, note how the door bottoms had to be cut at an angle. Talk about a crooked house!

And no, the picture was NOT taken at an angle!

I haven't taken many shots lately, but a few years ago I began collecting post cards of places created about 90 years ago and finding the same location today. I'm breaking your rules here, but it's a subject that is near and dear to my heart...

nice pics and great idea, past and present. I've been working on something similar, pictures of places that my Great Great Grandfather worte about visiting during his travels between Cincinatti and Washington Dc during the Civil War. I have his journals and have looked for prints/pictures of places from those times and want to take pictures of them now. Great way to connect to the past. Nice job I know the effort it takes.

Well now that I can see the picture, all I can say is Wow! Very nice composition, the age of the stone fits nicely with the theme even if its not a building or vehicle, it meets the main objective of old and worn/weathered beautifully. Very Nice, very nice indeed! =D>

I got curious about how long the tractor had taken to achieve its patina.

Do you suppose that's "DB Orchid White"?

http://web.telia.com/~u05100714/colour.htm wrote:DB Orchid White BS10B15 1965-1985

I think it resembles the DB 850, seen here in red (as if you didn't notice), which was manufactured from 1960-65.

Image

No documentation found so far whether any 1965 850s were painted Orchid White.

well, they don't appear to be buildings or vehicles though some might be bit older and asuming they are all still around and not completely worn by the elements,.......

Probably not quite!
