Stop and smell the roses, and while you're at it take a picture or two.

And I don't need a lecture from you. I was a fine art photography major in college, have been a photojournalist for 28 years and an instructor at the Corcoran College of Art + Design. We could discuss this all day and I'd still would say 'who need's color' when I posted the above B/W photo.

I don't need to know you've dipped your hands in Dektol to understand your mindset. You said enough :roll:

Given the poor response to this thread, I thought you would have welcomed my participation. Perhaps I should have left out my color statement.

This is the second time you have attacked me in a forum. There's an old saying that I feel is appropriate for you; "you will catch more bees with honey than with vinegar."

Since I don't want to violate the rules of your thread. Here's an orchid photo.

Again, as I indicted before, I have never "attacked" you, the first time I was ribbin ya and you got offended and I tried to send you my apologies and here again I was NOT attacking you, you ask the question “who needs color” and well I couldn’t resist responding (I'm a big science buff and esp. the study of vision happens to be a near and dear subject because of my own vision related problems) but it was meant in jest (note the smiley faces) in the hopes my point from our previous discussion (that I tend to rib folks) would come thru. Guess not, so I will desist in the future from ribbing you or responding to your posts in such a manner so as not offend you yet again.

Based on your handle I had already figured you most likely do it for a living and therefore quite sure you are a better photographer than me. As for my skills I’ve never claimed to be anything other than what I am, I guy who likes to take photos and share those I think are halfway decent. I’d like to think I’m pretty decent at it, but never fooled myself that I’m anything other than an amateur. Never went to college, hell I didn’t even graduate from high school! I am just a guy who is self-taught in just about everything I do, something which I happen to take a great deal of pride in. Nothing like doing it the hard way!

As for your shot I did in fact say it was a good shot but since the thread was Colors of Spring I stated that in my opinion it would have been more in keeping with the theme and say spring more if it were in color. You seem to read way more into my posts that exists, which unfortunately I can do nothing about. Like Jim said I’m about as laid back as you can get without falling over backwards, (well most of the time!).

Again I aplogize if I offended.

Think your picture link is bad Ben... (Though the link to the gallery is good)

I've got some spring-ish shots in the D200 I have to get off.
{And my .02 cents as a color blind guy is that B&W has more depth then color - takes more skill too! ;-) }

Thanks Kres. I don't know what's going on with the link. I think it's pbase-oriented. Sorry about that.

Certainly it presents unique challenges, I always found it makes you look at the subject in a different way, trying to imagine it in B&W is not easy for most because we take color so much for granted. Spending time outside at night looking at possible subjects is one way to help one become more atuned to it, since your eyes receptors (rods, I think) are more active then. They don't see color, but being more sensitive to lower light levels they can decern greater depth and more suttle shades. Looking at it in that sense it probably could be said that it takes more skill and something you really have to train your mind to see in normal lighting. the eye (and its connection to the mind) is pretty amazing. Just like most people don't ever notice that the stars are all different colors, its something you have to train your perception to be able to recognize and you don't need any optics to do it, its just a matter of time and training.
