my other bike has no motor....

Postby RocketMan » Mon Jul 16, 2012 5:11 pm

At my last job, I usually got in several miles a day walking due to the size of the complex I worked at and the fact that the systems I managed were scattered around two very large buildings so exercise was built in to the job..

Now for the past 7 months I not only work mostly from home, but since everything I do is pretty much remote I have found that I spend most of the day sitting..... not good

So I started riding my bike in the mornings for an hour or so down to the park at featherstone shores, sitting for a bit enjoying the wildlife and water while snacking on an energy bar, then riding home, 8 or so miles round trip.....

I fean I am becoming an exercise freak! YIKES!!!
But but but ...... its not my fault and I take no responsibility for the change, it just sort of crept up on me while I was out riding my bike.. (the human powered kind)....

then I got out my sea eagle inflatable and patched it and went paddling....

this is not good....

its like actually having to make an effort to go from place to place, (but with a more comfortable seat!) just like riding the bicycle!

Double YIKES!!!!!

Even took the bike up for a tune-up and have been riding everyday for a little over a month, about 8 miles a day in the mornings before the heat sets in...which I plan on alternating on weekends with a paddle in the sea eagle inflatable kayak....

now to learn to sit and a tree and play the flute...(and I have the flute, well recorder, already, now to find a nice tree.....)

Anyway a few shots from last weekend on the Occoquan...

note that I had to do some rather serious editing on the first two (mostly contrast and sharpening) to get any detail due to the distance and the fact I was using my Olympus waterproof camera which has been a bit of a disappointment image quality wise.

Took the kayak out on the Occquan lake today at the lake ridge marina and got some nice shots of the herons along the shore line. Nice little not to crowded park and marina on a nice secluded cove off of the main reservoir.

The inflatable inflates in less than 5 minutes and even accounting for the inflating and deflating and packing its probably about the same level of effort that a hard shelled would be taking into account loading and unloading and putting on and taking off any kind rack on the Kia. Pretty sturdy little craft, glad I hung on to it these past years.

Very nice, Jeff, especially the reflected heron and the feather.

views from Veteran's Park

Postby RocketMan » Mon Jul 23, 2012 8:20 pm

A few shots from my daily morning ride down to Veteran's Park...and beyond if time allows, about 8 to 10 miles each morning mostly pavement mixed in with a few trails in the park.
First a few shots from an area I call turtletown (an area around a foot bridge at the end of the park where there are always ton's of turtles)

Image

a nice view from one of the benches where I sit for a few each morning enjoying the quiet and abundant wildlife going about their morning feeding and grooming....

and a some shots of some large white flowers growing by the edge of one of the many wet-land ponds...

RM,

Very nice! I especially enjoyed the photos of the elusive Great Blue Herons.
