Stop and smell the roses, and while you're at it take a picture or two.

A few pics of the Blue Angels...

Went down to Martin State airport with my Dad on father's day to see the Blue Angels. Missed them taking off but got them coming in...

They were having an open house at the same time with a couple aircraft on display.

I stopped by to say hi to my co-workers...

Cool!! Maybe it's weird, but I think the A-10 is just a beautiful piece of engineering. It's no F/A-18, sure, but still...

They are probably a little top heavy in the turns when used as a TRIKE... but they sure are beautiful in the air!

Fighters are under some requirement to be beautiful. When I was in junior high I doodled amateurish action facsimiles of F-86s, MiG-15s, P-51s, Hawkers, Zeroes, stuff like that. I'm still drawn to the WWII- and Korean War-era aircraft at Udvar-Hazy, but those are some marvelous-looking devices you captured, Rick. Thanks.

I think it goes with being efficient. Most things that are designed for efficiency -- fighters, racing cars and bikes, etc. -- tend to appeal to those of us who appreciate engineering and design vs styling. In motorcycles, for example, an S 1000 RR is designed, a Harley Ultra is styled, if you get my meaning. It's not that one is objectively better than the other in terms of beauty (which is all up to the viewer), but the emphasis during the production process is different.

"Form follows function" has been one of my core beliefs since I started reading Road & Track magazine in 1956. Right now, I can't think of a core value that ranks higher. Some style is also allowed, or else what would the Italians do?
