A view through my Garden Window..

Image

A pictorial of the story of new life and nature

About a week and half ago while Jeanne was watering the hanging plants a little bird flew out of it. Then a few days later it happened again so we looked into the plant hanger and found…

Image

A house sparrow had built a nest, no wonder she was so agitated at the plant being sprayed with water!

Image

Here she is sitting on the nest..

Image

Image

Then we saw these little guys..
Day 2 after hatching

Image

Image

Day 3
Image

Day 4
their mouths are open and you can see pin feathers forming on their wings
Image

Image

Day 6 really starting to become active during the day..
Image

Image

Day 7 today July3
Amazing how fast they are growing, now their eyes are completely open during the day and demanding food, and even preening their feathers.. pretty kool to watch it all happen..

RM,

Very neat pictures. Have you named at least one of them "Jack"?

RocketMan, sorry, it's not a House Sparrow but a Song Sparrow. The streaked breast with dark spot and white line above the eye are the keys. The very neat nest is also a clue, the House Sparrow lives in the equivilent of a mobile home. The Song Sparrow has a wonderful note when singing.

Interesting, the pictures I found this morning of the bird certainly seems to be that of the song sparrow, what's interesting is that the egg coloration (which is what I used to determine the species at first) seem to be more like that of the house sparrow as they do not have the more blue-green tint that the song sparrow egg pictures indicate. Go figure! Also I noted that many sites indicated the house sparrow as one of the most aggressive species of sparrow, which these guys certainly are, and why many people consider them pests as they will drive off and take over other birds nests. But the nest,as you say is not typical of the house sparrow, so I guess I'll go with song sparrow even though I have only heard the chirp which they do whenever we are outside in the garden esp. if the cats are out us!

Great pics. How cooperative was mom about you hovering over the nest?

she hops about on the fence chirping like crazy so, I'd say, Not Very..
which is why I don't take too many shots or do it every day.. don't want her going off and leaving them...

Very cool to see them grow so quickly. Thanks for taking us along.

Repo - you had what I'd say (after seeing these pics) was a 1 day old baby bird on your front walk... Seems to be gone now. I guess nature took it's course. Poor little birdie.

BIG black crow stalked the baby birds in a nest under my deck for about a week. I don't think he's hungry anymore.
