Alexandria to White's Ferry

I had a nice run a few weeks ago. We started in Alexandria for coffee at the end of King Street near the water and rode north on Rte. 1, over to Rosslyn to cross The Key Bridge and then north on Clara Barton Pkwy. Turn up onto McArthur Blvd and head west. That took us to the left on Rte 190, River Road, up the north side of the Potomac. We dumped into Edwards Ferry, but River Road from there to White's Ferry is a gravel goat trail and one of the guys was on a Big Dog museum piece, so we diverted around on the pavement - easy enough and adds a couple miles of twisties - oh darn! The ride on White's Ferry back to the People's Republic of Virginia cost only a couple of bucks for a bike. We hit Leesburg, where Payne's Biker Bar (Stay right on the business loop going into town, then just before Rte. 50 the pub is on the right with bike parking in front.) provided a nice lunch and bellywasher. We suffered a few miles down Rte. 50 to Dranesville where we picked up the delightful Georgetown Pike and connected up 495 a mile to the George Washington Parkway, which routed us back to Rte 1 and Alexandria.

Keep the shiny side up!
