Good roads in MD?

Postby henwin » Wed Mar 28, 2012 10:44 pm

I have been spending a lot of quality riding time on the roads of Carroll County--particularly south of a imaginary line that runs east and west through Westminster and parallels the southern boarder of the county. CC is between Frederick & Baltimore Counties. There are some gravel sections, but even when there are, they're usually not more than a few miles long, and they're very hard packed--unless there's been very recent rains. In most cases, if you stay off the main roads you'll find roads that are anything but straight, with signficant elevation changes--at least for the piedmont of MD--and with little or no traffic on them. Perfect definitions of what Jim Ford would call "invisible roads".

Carroll County's police force--the Sheriff's department is small and the county is not. They have to rely a lot of the MD State Police. Once your on the invisible roads chances of seeing a gendarme drop like a stone--unless you're particularly "lucky"! #-o

The problem is not high-performance motorcycles. It's low-performance riders...

If you draw an imaginary line from the Potomac river over to Route 29 starting just north of Potomac (the town) and going to Simpsonville, just about everything north of there is good riding. Similar experiences on just about everything west of Frederick.
