Rte 72 between Parsons and Canaan, WV

Postby dadsabiker » Wed Jun 24, 2009 7:36 am

Just discovered this in my car last weekend, but this is one 12+ mile stretch just beggin' for a bike. Probably best suited for a GS, but I'm going to conquer it on the RT. What a tremendous mountain road!

That's the one just below the Ski resort and runs along the river right? Great road and one I hope to get back to soon. When we rode it, I was on my Wee-strom and loving it while my wife was on her Springer and burning holes in the back of my head.

That's correct; You pick it up just south of Canaan Resort and Lodge and it runs along the river....or about 1500 feet over the river, all the way to Hendricks, and eventually, into Parsons.

There was a small group of four of us, and we kinda found it by accident. We'd been out all day and just left the Falls heading down the mountain when it started getting late and we realized we needed to start heading back towards the lodge. On the paper map 72 looked liked the perfect shortcut 8)

Newbie here.

I road that stretch on a GSXR1000 last summer. If you keep going North from Parsons it's a great road too. Heck that whole area is full of great roads.

I plan to take the new GSA next time.....

I rode that with Shane when at the RA rally this summer I was on the LT and Shane on his Airhead GS and I was in the lead the whole time, no challange at all, ('cept for all the loose gavel and tight turns and steep hills and no lane markings with big ol' trucks tearing along in the middle of road just as you crested some blind hill/corner combo).

no wait I started out in the lead....

Based on this thread, I've integrated that stretch of road into a 1,000 mile ride I'm planning for late April.

BTW, I finally rode the section from the intersection with 32 to the intersection with 219. I would NOT recommend it. It's about half a road--two cars can't pass without one pulling over. The road hasn't been paved since the Truman administration. The curves are full of gravel. There is other debris all over the place. I probably averaged 20 MPH.
