That's really cool. I have been meaning to get up that way for awhile now. My grandfather used to have a small hunting cabin near Richmond Furnace. Your route goes right by there.

I rode Rt 233 the other day... it was fun, but the pavement is pretty unpredictable.

True dat. It's not bad from 174 south to the Adams County line, or south of Route 30 to Mount Alto, but in between is badly in need of paving. I did it this afternoon and hit gravel in the twisties twice.

The next time you are in the area head on over to the next valley and ride the Road to Carsonville, turn left at the Hotel, then over the ridge to Lykens. Run up 209 then work your way over to 125. Ride 125 to the hill above Shamokin. Turn around and ride 125 back to Hegins. In Hegins take 25 to 225 which will bring you back to your starting point the Carsonville Road. Enjoy!

Only problem is that 209 from Tower City to Tremont is absolutely the worst road surface in Pennsylvania. And that is saying a lot. It is seriously embarrassing--maintained to African standards.

Is this how you remember Rt 125 from Tremont to Good Spring?

Image

Actually you can avoid riding 125 from Tremont to Good Spring by taking a short cut in Joliett. As you approach Joliett on Rt 209 hang a left on the first noticable side road (Main St per Google Maps) and ride that road to Good Spring where the good pavement and fun begins. Further north on Rt 125 I take a left at Gowen City on SR 2044 to avoid Shamokin. At Trevorton a right on 225 then a quick left on 890 towards Sunbury. If your goal is to cross the Susquehanna and head south to complete your loop you can avoid Sunbury by making a left off of 890 on SR 4018SH near Seven Points.

My favorite Rt 125 mile. Someday I am going to catch some nice air on this stretch. Someday.

A few looking south:

Completion of the previous pic. I need to count the number of curves on 125.

Gowen City. The left side of this structure is just a front facade. The right side is inhabited.

I think RB needs to organize a ride this Fall!

You've posted a lot of great PA roads. Now I need to put them together into a route that's doable from Gaithersburg in 10 hours total or so.

Drove Rt 125 South early Wednesday morning in the Smart Car. I had the entire road to myself. With only 71 hp it was a challenge to keep the rpm's up. While not as fun as riding the road on a cycle; I was pleased with the vehicle's performance. BTW: I counted out 134 curves from Gowen City to Good Spring. Per Google Maps 14.6 mi.

Appreciate the post, despite its age. I did your initial route above a couple weekends back. Was my longest day of riding both in terms of hours and mileage (9 hrs total and 375 miles). Plus, I "found" some stretches to do smaller rides post Cozy-breakfast when I go.

Had a few "firsts" to boot... almost ran out of gas (parts have no Verizon signal or hint of a gas station if you don't know the area) and hit a patch of lite gravel to name two. Definitely a good day overall.

Thanks!
Jim

Rode South on Rt 125 Sunday afternoon with my son who rides a GSXR750. On my return ride from Harrisburg Monday morning a PA state policeman was running radar on a 15 mph posted hairpin turn. I imagine the locals get a bit annoyed with the hard core sport bike riders.

The "draging tail" sucks, over rated, there are better roads!
