Having put in 6400 miles in my first five months of riding, I've come up with a collection of my favorite stretches of PA roads:

641 from Shade Gap to Newville
944 from Carlisle Springs to McCrea
997 from McCrea to the Maryland line
233 from Dickinson to Mont Alto
174 from Boiling Springs to Walnut Bottom
274 from Doylesburg to Blain
26 from Huntingdon to State College
147 from Halifax to Sunbury
325 from Dauphin to Tower City
234 from its intersection with Route 30 to East Berlin

I lived there when I was a little kid.

I would love these highlighted on a map. Maybe I'll do it myself.

"234 from its intersection with Route 30 to East Berlin"

While this is a nice scenic stretch of rural roadway, I'd advise anyone riding it to be cautious: there are lots of blind four way intersections, low visibility driveways and a unusually high number of accidents--both MC and cage. There are also a high number of DUIs on this stretch. I tend to avoid riding on or north of 234 in Adams County--WAY too many drunks on the orchard roads.

That said, there are a ton of nice MC roads in southern Adams County, particularly west and south of Gettysburg, even into Franklin and Fulton Counties and the northern areas of MD just below the Pa. border.

Hmm. I've never had a problem in the 8 or 10 times I've ridden it. I stay off of it during the apple harvest season to avoid getting stuck behind trucks.

Now I gotta see how they string together for loops. I can't believe I rode near those places and complained about the riding.

Looking at your maps, I realize I made a mistake: it should be Rt. 234 WEST to its intersection with Rt 30. I forgot that it intersects at both ends.

As my horizons have expanded (along with my waist line), here's the latest version of my PA favorites, including Tail of the Groundhog

Ah! I see you found one of my favorite roads: Rt 477 from Livonia to Salona via Loganton. I rode it South mid Sunday afternoon. Passed more Amish buggies than autos. Sweet!

Another decent loop: Rt 45 West of Mifflinburg to Milheim, right at the light on North St., Rt 192 East to Rebersburg, then W. Winter Road or Rt 880 to Loganton or Carrol. (I believe more Amish reside in the Loganton valley than English.)

Other than the ones I linked, this is a good stretch: http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&msa=0&ll=40.323514,-76.245117&spn=1.543242,3.56781&z=9&msid=107895972692907556797.00048309f44030a987e75 In fact, I'm going to ride it Saturday morning. I find the southeastern part of the state east of I 83 and south of I 78 kind of boring because it's so flat.
