Looking for a good place to camp within a couple hundred miles of Reston....I have not been camping in years, so...wanna try it out again. Just need to find all the right stuff for the bike...Any suggestions?

Thanks.

If you want to relive your childhood camping memories of being scared of the dark; ck out this state park:

We have our popup in Montebello, VA . Great place. Has a small lake (aka pond) in which you can fish, swim and kayak and it's 2 miles off the Blue Ridge Parkway on Rte 56. There's a country store and gas and the people are great. If you don't want to rough it they have a few cabins too.

Here's a link - http://www.montebellova.com/

Can't recommend it highly enough. And, of course, the riding in that area is fantastic.

You can also camp right along the upper Potomac NW of DC. There are sites right on the river, some with little "bays" (small, small things) where you can dip in. I know it's actually closer to the city than farther, but it's fun. Be warned: they are not designated campsites. No one seems to care, you just find a place along the Potomac and set up a tent. I've done it on a bicycle.

Sherando Lake is a nice place too. Cabins or BYOT (bring your own tent). And the best part - it's RIGHT off the BRP!! :kumbaya:  :realhappy:
