2013 Cape Fear 1000 Rally

Postby jebain2002 » Wed Nov 28, 2012 5:03 pm

For anyone who might be interested, this was posted not long ago on the Cape Fear Rider's Discussion Board:

To all interested riders:

While I normally don't make any announcements concerning the next year's rally
until after December 1st, this year I plan to be at The Eldridge Children's Home
that day participating in their annual Christmas Toy Run, so I thought I would
kick things off a little early (which is, apparently, still too late for Sal).

While the website should be updated prior to the Christmas Holidays with the
specific details, I would like to announce the general parameters of the 2013
CF1K. As we have done in the past, there will be three starting locations for
the 24+ hour version of the rally. Starting time will be 10:00 am Eastern, on
Friday, April 19, 2013 and you will start from either Batavia, NY; Union City,
TN; or, Wauchula, FL. Due to the strong turnout last year, we will also have
the 10-hour Mini-Rally departing at 6:00 am on Saturday, April 20, 2013, from
our host motel, The Econo-Lodge Wilmington. The Mini-Rally Rider's Meeting,
Finish, Scoring, Banquet and other activities will again be at Lily's Banquet
Room, located at the rear of the Econo Lodge property.

Now for the bad news. There is a major change to how riders will be able to
participate in the CF1K. There will no longer be an "open" registration.
Beginning January 1, 2013, riders who are interested in participating in the
CF1K will have to submit an application for registration (the format, including
required information, will be available on this board and on the website) to:
Rallymaster@capefear1000.com Applications will be approved and registration
emails sent to riders through the Ride Master program beginning January 15,
2013. Consideration will be given during the approval process to prior
participation in the CF1K, participation in other rallies as a rider or staff,
willingness to start from a location other than the primary choice and such
other information as the Rallymaster deems important. As in the past, I will
maintain a waiting list for each starting location once we have reached the
maximum number of riders.

For the final bit of bad news, the quotes for everything this year have gone up.
For the last three events I have been able to hold our suppliers to their 2009
prices, but I am consistently hearing that this year our costs are going up at
least 5%, and in one case over 30%. As a result, entry fees will increase by
$10.00. What this means is that the 2013 Entry Fee for a one-up rider will be
$105.00, and two-ups will be $155.00. Entry fees will still include a
short-sleeve rally shirt for the rider (and passenger, if applicable), snacks
and beverages at the finish and BBQ Banquet Saturday night.

So, mark your calendars for January 1, 2013, look for a posting and announcement
when the format with required information is posted and get ready for the
kick-off of the 2013 Rally Season.

Thanks everyone!! We all had a GREAT ride!!! Got a little wet on Friday night, but it's not a Cape Fear rally without rain!!!

Don Catterton and Pam Fisher were there to help with the scoring. Ms. Kitty, taking a pretty conservative route, still placed 10th!! =D> =D> =D> Out of her starting group in NY. Chaz Fisher, Lisa and Marty Cover all finished their routes and had good rides but unfortunately, I can't remember their placements. Jeff Wilson, Bob Stransky and Allen Hatcher did GREAT on their rides. I'm pretty sure Allen was in the top 10 out of the TN group. Again, can't remember Jeff's place, but I thought he did pretty good too. I placed 19th out of the TN group.

I hope I'm not forgetting anyone. BMWBMW had a great showing again this year! I look forward to next years rally!

A great time was had by all! Typical Cape Fear weather (How does Jim do that??), and our friend Margaret ran with the Big Dog in the mini-rally until her minor technical failure near the end. Lisa, Marty and I were clustered in the 12-14th range, if I remember correctly.

Many of us moved up a bit.... :D

CF is always a blast and it's always nice to see everyone.

I don't know how 'conservative' my route was. Lazy is more like it  My favorite moment of the rally was running into Walt (who did the 10 hour) at Gilchrist Bridge. I was hanging out, helmet off, watering the bushes, eating some jerky, drinking a cold soda, blah, blah, blah. He comes tearing in, full on rally mode "Where is it?". Me - "Meh, I dunno, I was gonna burn a square and then look for it. Maybe over there?" He's frantically messing with his GPS and I'm thinking, "So THAT'S what I look like?"

It was also fun to run into Jeff Wilson a bunch of times toward the later part of the rally, but since I was on the lazy girl route, Jeff got away from me after a few stops.

Thanks to the folks who worked scoring and other stuff, it's important and appreciated.
