We had a great turn out for breakfast. About 13 - 14 people, old and new members. This was probably Phil and Karen Ager’s last Clifton Breakfast as they are headed to Alabama. Safe Rides and Roads Karen and Phil.

It was great weather for a ride and Jose led four other members (Allan, Barney, Phoebe and Hunter) out West to discover Mount Weather Road (Rt 601). Several people in the group had never been on Mount Weather Rd so it was a good choice for a ride. We took mostly back roads to experience some twisties and scenery, and planned a rest stop in Bluemont before heading back. Our route is listed below.

Everything’s was going fine till the group got to the hairpin turn above Bluemont and one of our riders experienced guardrail fixation. Just an example of violating the rule of “Look where you want to go”. Fortunately it was a relatively low speed crash, but there was enough damage that the bike wasn’t safe to ride. Luckily our friend was in full ATGATT and only suffered a bruise above the boot collar. The group stayed together until a tow truck arrived to take bike and rider home. The rest of the group made it home without incident.

On a side note, Bull Run Post Office Road has new asphalt and striping, and a section of the South to North side of Mount Weather Road has new asphalt and a layer of gravel for about a mile just South of the FEMA Emergency Operations Complex.
