Breakfast in Myersville, MD

Postby bdimon » Wed Jul 13, 2016 1:09 pm

It's the third Saturday of the month this weekend and you know that means a visit to the diner with the freshest eggs that I know of, Old Town Diner in Myersville, MD. https://binged.it/29yG0Oa. After breakfast, we will ride through some cool hilly roads.

If you want to ride before breakfast as well, I'll ride backroads from Marshall, VA to the diner. https://binged.it/29yH0ls At 8:30 am, I'll leave the 7-11 at 8324 W Main St, Marshall, VA 20115. It's at the corner of Routes 55 and 17. Its GPS Coordinates are 38.866521, -77.855207. I have a twisty route to our 10 am breakfast in Myersville, MD.

You have options! At 8:30 am, you can ride before breakfast to the Diner. At 10 am, you can eat the best breakfast around. After the meal, you can join us for a ride in search of cool forested roads. See you this Saturday.

I'm going to try and make it by 10, and join the ride. What kind of forested roads? As in forest service roads, or just paved tree lined roads? I'll be on the DL650 so either works for me, long as any off-road isn't to technical as I'm still pretty much a newbie with this big bike off-road stuff.
I'm going to try and get a new riding buddy to come as well, he's on a Wet Head GS 1200 that I've been trying to get to join the club, the rider not the bike, that is!

Saturday's weather is looking better. Like every summer day there is a chance of late afternoon thunderstorms but I plan to be home before they hit. See you tomorrow. 8)

Ok, I'm going to try to meet up at Marshal but if I'm not there by 8:30 don't wait. George should be joining me but we may not make it to Marshal by 8:30 so we'll just ride up from Haymarket.
Since its going to be all paved I might come up on the SR as its a better hot weather bike being a pretty much bare bones machine. Either way I should see you all at the breakfast.

Tomorrow's planned ride was inspired by the Virginia DOT Scenic Roads & Byways map. The ride will be about three and a half hours and we will end up at Carousel's Frozen Treats in Warrenton, VA about 2:30 pm. I'm excited! :D

Perfect, that will put near home, more or less, and in time to get home to cook dinner. George will be meeting us at the eatery around 10ish.

What a great day for a breakfast ride! The fun started before breakfast. I met Rocket Man and John at the 7-11 in Marshall, VA for a ride north to Myersville for the breakfast run. I strung together several of Virginia's scenic byways through the horse country west of Middleburg continuing north through the vineyards of Loudoun County. If you ever wondered where the one-percent spend their weekend, this is where. Their mansions have beautiful views of rolling hills with the Blue Ridge in the background. We have the same view from the roads but get to lean into curves between glances.

After crossing the Potomac near Harper's Ferry, we crossed South Mountain at Gathland State Park and the War Correspondents' Arch. The farms in Maryland were working farms, not gentlemen farmer mansions like in Virginia. Better for us, the curves got tighter.
The sun was high but had not had time to heat up the day so the temperatures were comfortable. What a great way to work up an appetite. :feedme:

Eight people enjoyed breakfast at the Old Town Diner while a ninth searched for the restaurant and a tenth was stuck in traffic on I-270.

Newcomers to the diner pondered their choices... :feedme:

While the regulars had already decided on their favorites. :feedme2:

As we were leaving the restaurant, we found one of our missing riders! Six of us left the restaurant and wiggled down the backroads and past the Boonesboro Washington Monument. It's the first monument erected to George Washington. Two of our riders left us at Sharpsburg to return home to chores and responsibilities. The poor slobs.

We crossed the Potomac into Shepherdstown on our way to the mountains. The goal was to ride some scenic byways at cool, higher altitudes. The fun started on WV 45, Apple Harvest Dr, and continued into Virgina on routes 681, 690, and 600.

You can see how much we enjoyed the roads by the smiles on our faces. :rider:

With clouds announcing rain to come, we split up in Front Royal. Three of us jumped on the fast roads home while I continued towards Warrenton under a darkening sky. I turned onto Hume Road shortly after rain had dampened it. The mist rising from the pavement cooled the air and gave a eerie fog to the previously hot day. I caught up to the rain and pulled up my Aerostitch collar to seal my neck from the water. I only rode in it for five minutes and stayed perfectly dry. It's good to have dumb luck. :D

The destination was, of course, an ice cream place. The dark chocolate soft serve was wonderful. Next time I'll try the Hawaiian Ice.

I made it home before the afternoon showers. Another great day of riding!
