Mods on my 12GS

Postby JimVonBaden on Wed Nov 02, 2005 10:27 am

Here are a couple other mods I have completed thus far.

Image

Jesse Bags.

Image

For $2.50 in Lexan, and $1 in Duel Lock I now have a decent looking cover for my headlight, too late for a small rock chip, but hopefully good for protection.

Image

A very lightly used CeeBaileys +2 +2 screen. Seems to add protection, but no better for buffeting, though the stock was pretty good too.

Image

GPS Mount with $1 home made sun screen. I used a plastic folder from Staples and a few inches of black velcro. It works better than the aftermarket ones because it is twice as deep, and blocks more sun.

Image

A bad picture of my Fastway pegs. They are my favorite mod.

Image

Home meade "GS" reflective stickers for the back and side. I made them with 3M reflective tape sheets for $10.

Image

You can barely see them here. They work great, so I am told.

I removed the rear facing reflectors and added a duel helmet lock kit I got from here for $20. I am going to add the reflectors to the sides of the Jesse bags.

Also notice the SWMototech tank bag. It mounts to the fuel filler ring on an adapter and is very easily removed. TOO easy as it fell off once. I now lock it on more carefully, and have a safety lock on it too. I really like it, now.

Image

Hepco and Becker crash bars.

Please add some of your ideas here.

Are you going to add some nifty auxiliary light?

Should that say $2.50? I think you can buy a new headlight assy for $250.

Got any of the lexan scraps left? Where'd you get it?

Can you explain or shoot a pic of the extra lock or mod you had to make to the tank bag. I just bought one for my RT, it looks like it's wider than my Big MAK = better for my radio and electronics goodies.

Fixed, thanks! I do, but the sheet was only 8" X 10". I got it at Lowes!

Depends on the size, mine is only about 8" wide, and 12" long, and 4-5" tall, though it is expandable another 2-3".

The lock was a simple cable lock wropped around the GPS and the handle of the bag.

I really like the bag, but be very careful putting it on. It locks down securely, but slips off if you don't get it right. Since adding the cable it hasn't come loose again, so I must be doing it right.

I'll get a couple more pics of it later.

Great Stuff, but those headers look like they can use some polishing though!

None chromed stainless headers turn brown. Nothing will bring them back. Besides, it is a GS, it is suppoed to look used. :D

If I really wanted to beautify them, I would ceramicoat them in silver, and never have them change color again.

A few more pics and mods.

Image

MicaTech Top case. $135 including mount for BMW.

Image
Image
I usually do not have it expanded, actually never so far, but it is a nice feature.

Image

Now for the mounting system.

Image
Image

And a lock to keep it on the bike. $3.99.

Image

How I use the lock for fueling.

Image

The green arrows point to the scuffs the bag took 20 miles after putting it on, and 100 yards after getting gas. You have to be very careful to make sure it is all the way locked. I added the lock cable to make sure it doesn't happen again. Of course I haven't had to test it yet, but finds it works great for holding the bag when getting gas.

Now for the helmet locks. $20 used.

Image

Image

And finally the GPS Sun Shade and mount that some asked for.

Image

Its fun doing this.

Mortons had a sheet for $10, but you can get it online almost anywhere.

I used PowerPoint to get the font and size right.

Where'd you get the dual lock for the headlight? I want some to mount the FRS radio on the dash where I can see it. I haven't found anything nearly strong enough for that at HD (or anywhere else). What I want is the stuff they give out with an EasyPass.

You can get it at Target in the hardware section for $2.50 for 10", both sides are the same, and it really sticks. Worked great on my Laminar lip, and you know how much force is on that!
