Who would have thought there would be an 11 mpg advantage for a hexRT over a hexGS? The RT is heavier and higher HP. Must be the gearing :?:

Or coefficient of drag.

I'm a little skeptical about these mileage ratings. I've never gotten 54 MPG out of my GS. I'm usually in the 42-44 range.

I'm in the same boat.

I'm in the same boat with a 06' GS. Low 40-something per gallon average.

Maybe if I took all the panniers off, took off all my protective gear, lathered up with low friction oil, lost 30 pounds, shaved my head, and only used 6th gear at all times... maybe I could get 54 mpg.

54 MPG Gear -

Gear required to achieve 54 MPG on a '06 GS in the Washington Metropolitan Area - though I think the beard would represent a 1-2 mpg penalty.

Yeah. But the slick material and bare butt may reduce the coefficient of drag.

DH: I only get about 42-44 max as well. I would love to extend the mpg to the 50's. I probably won't go off road with my current GS so I am wondering if re-gearing my 2nd gear and 6th gear might increase the mpg?

The great mileage of the hex RT was a pleasant surprise.
On the slab with speed matching other traffic I regularly see the low 50s mpg. Backroads would see mid 40s, but stop and go commuting would be another story. With the OBC, it's nice to monitor fuel consumption for differant legs of the trip. Scott

well now, I don't know about those figures my 78 R100 does about 43-46 and they say a 78 R80 on gets 41? My LT's computer says on the highway i'm getting 46-48 and around town 44-45.5.
