Lancasters BBQ - Mooresville, NC

Postby lionlady » Sun Dec 31, 2006 10:33 pm

http://lancasters-bbq.com/index.html

This is the place that Eleanor and I were pointed to when we overnighted in Mooresville, NC on our way to Athens, GA.

It was so obviously a "local" hangout that the hostess waited expectantly for me to tell her what I needed when we walked in. She seemed truly surprised to have a total stranger walk thru the doors unaccompanied by a local regular.

The entire decor was centered on stock car racing.

Nevertheless, the BBQ was magnificent!! the real bonus was that the hush puppies tasted of pork fat. Obviously they make good and full use of the pig at this establishment.

I expect local variants on a meal combo. Here it was the brunswick stew. I've never had brunswick stew before. Oh, my! YUMMY!

Been to Chubby's several times. I think it's ok. Not best I've tried but way above average. Have not tried the ribs.

They make their own spicy chips there and serve them with most meals. I love the chips but my wife doesn't care for them (too thick).

How far is this place from you, PJ?

PS Service 2 out of three times was care of female versions of Dumb and Dumber.

I forgot to post that i did stop there on 01/01/2007.

I tasted the ribs, the briskets and the pork.
The came in big chuncks pulled right off the shoulders. it was very good. the bisket was a bit dry and the ribs were awfull. I think there had been holding the ribs for quite a whie and they had dried up.
the cornbread was good. I did not like the potato sdalad (too much onion)

I think I will go another time to try other items and give the ribs a second chance.

Redneck Ribs

Postby repo » Mon Mar 12, 2007 6:26 am

Was out riding around yesterday, and stumbled into The Cowboy Store....asked the youngin' behind the counter for a place to eat. She suggested Redneck Ribs, in New Market.

http://www.redneckribs.com/

We split a full rack of dry ribs. They weren't actually dry, but damn good. In my mind, dry is 'dry rub'. But, these were just fantastic. Maybe they should have been called 'glazed ribs'.

We had smoked mac & cheese and baked beans as sides. The mac & cheese was a little dry, but the smoked flavor was new and tasty. I didn't try the beans, but there were none left to try when I got around to them, so that seems like a good sign.

The place just opened Feb 21. There is parking out back, but we parked on the street. The dining area seats 12 maybe....Don't know if there was seating out back, but there should be.

The owner use to have a sidewalk stand in Hagerstown, but moved into town. Very friendly guy. Has some HD crusier pewter models and some neat framed LP's on the walls.

Rub BBQ

Postby repo » Tue Apr 03, 2007 7:03 am

1843 Light St.
South Baltimore
Baltimore, MD
(410) 244-5667

The ribs was fantastic, no sauce (the way I like it). A few sauces on the table - I tried the sweet sauce and it was good. The meat easily fell off the bones, and was soooooo tender.

I had mac & cheese and french fries as sides. The M&C was so-so. Too creamy (too much milk?). The fries were real good.

Jeff got the ribs too, with green beans and some other side.

You know the food is good when you stop talking while you eat.

Dinner certainly made up for my tire fiasco!

That is all.

BBQ to avoid....

Postby repo » Thu May 24, 2007 11:52 am

Maurices BarBQue in North Carolina.

Order - Large rib platter. 4 beef ribs, handful of hushpuppies, 'famous' hash, roll.

Beef ribs - meat was too dry, but there was alot of meat on 'dem bones.

Sauce - came coated in this honey-mustard sauce that was too over-powering. I like my meat dry...., and then add whatever I want to it.

Hash - was 'interesting'. I tasted it, but that's as far as I got.

Hushpuppies - were better then the roll.

Sweet Tea - was awesome.

sidenote: I found out later, that this is a 'chain' resaturant...
