Bun Burner Gold 1500 or Bun Burner 1500

Postby Dave K1200LT » Mon Nov 05, 2007 12:44 am

I though while I was riding to get those four southern states to fill in the east coast of my visited states map I should also do a IBA ride. I left Saturday morning a little after 6am, after saying good bye to my two witnesses. I spent the next 11 hours getting my four state photo's, riding to the limits of my fuel tank before refilling and getting the required receipts as I went. When I reached the Flordia line and took my last photo the GPS had my milage at 750. I continued on to Jacksonville where I got my turn around receipt at 765 miles. At this point I realized I had 12 1/2 hours left for the return trip for a Bun Burner Gold ride. Once I added in time for gas stops it was clear I would have to settle for a plain Bun Burner. I rode on for another 3 hours thru Georgia and into South Carolina before getting dinner and a motel for the night. I had ridden 15 hours and some 940 miles.

Sunday morning I continued on with a 5am start. Had the gerbings on full blast as the temp was in the mid 30's. Rode for a couple hours feeling chilled thinking the temp would come up as the sun was getting higher. I finally had to stop and put the rain gear on, which took the chill away. It was noon before I stopped to remove the rain gear and gas the bike for the final 100+ miles to the finish gas stop near home. I was south of Richmond at I-295 at this point. Once back on I-95 the traffic was heavy but moving extreamly well. I made my final stop a little after 2pm. With the time change I don't know if gained an hour or lost an hour. I just know I'm well within the 36 hour window which was a little after 5 or 6 pm.

I knew you could do it -- both the remaining states and the BB1500. Way to go! :D

I am hard pressed to fit that in before end of contest. But I'll keep you on my short list.

While I have (ahem) some time off from work (till congress gets off their a$$ and appropriates some DoD funding), I was thinking strongly about doing a SS1K. Since we now have a couple interested parties, waddya think?

Oh, great job Dave. I don't suppose you had a chance to sample some BBQ on the way, huh?

I'm interested but I'd either have to do this on my own or with someone that wouldn't mind if I ditched them. I'm a verrrrrryyyy new LD rider and not sure I could do it in the first place - so I want to be able to bail if I have to.
