RUT ride, what?

Postby JimVonBaden » Tue May 02, 2006 8:56 pm

Our eagerly anticipated ride to the RUT has begun on a bright and sunny Friday morning. Temps in the 40’s, and fresh bikes, and we were raring to go!

Image
Our first stop of the day. We passed through Maryland, but the sign was on a bridge.

Image
Then on through Penn, for the longest lag of the ride.

Image
And finally into Ohio for the short few miles to Boardman!

Image
We were, of course, greeted by a motley crew of Rounders. Mike was kissing everyone, and Joe just kept grinning!

Image
Then a few more showed up…John, JVZ, Lee and Kevin.

Image
And a few more…Xaque, Dan and Bubba.

Image
Some drinking took place…

Image
A little harmless silliness with Joe and Mike.

Image
The “Beautiful People” made an appearance. Xaque and Bird Girl.

Then we all drifted off to bed.

Image
The next morning we had our first good look at the plethora of Rounder machines.

Image
Mongo and SRAB’s bike in the closest proximity you will likely ever see, especially given SRAB won’t let him park near her normally LOL

Image
Joe’s pre-destructo-derby bike. Absent is his mile high pile of stuff.

Image
The Mounty, Mike, was demonstrating how he really wasn’t afraid to uncover his bike!

Image
The group getting ready for Dale’s excellent guided tour of the area! (Thanks Dale!) Those riding were Me, Tina, Geri, Dan, Mongo, Dale and Andy.

Image
Our first real stop, for some radiation therapy. I could have sworn Dan was glowing on Saturday night! :-)

Image
Our second stop where we met up with Dennis and John.

Image
Tina found this amusing, a live bait dispenser!

Image
We then headed to the dam, where Mongo showed how well trained he was by parking far away from the rest of the group! :-)

Image
The red bikes tended to stick together for safety!

Image
Tina took a minute to ride up the road, and was greeted ADVRider Style by Dennis.

Image
The dam was very cool, and had some nice vistas.

Image
We all took a few minutes to relax, and some were better at it than others.

Image
We were all famished so we stopped at this little roadside stand for a small bite, but apparently Dan didn’t get the memo on the definition of small. One of my mini-corn dogs next to Dan’s huge hot dog tells the story. Geri had a small burger.

Image
On Saturday evening we stood around talking bikes for a bit before heading off to dinner.

Thanks to Dan and Joe’s chauffer service getting us safely to and from the dinner.

Image
Dinner and SWAG were awesome. Thanks to El Dookey and BB for all their hard work!

Image
We all assembled for a great group shot. Thanks to Tracey for taking the pics.

The next morning we headed out early, and took a leasurly ride home.

Image
Not far, but quality miles.

Image
The bikes safely at home. Happy, a little tired, but steadfast and strong!

Looks like it was fun weekend, Jim. Are all the rounder events on the website?

I find the bait machine amusing too and maybe a little gross. Looks like fun! How come you don't have your Great Tour numbers on the bikes - you got W and O, but they probably don't count without the number!!!

I don't have a number. I am way too undisciplined to even bother!

Holy Bringing Up A 5-6 Year Old Thread Batman!!!!!

I was searching for something else... actually not even on the BMWBMW site, when I found this thread. Since I've only been around the boards for about 1 year, I have to ask... what is a RUT ride? And why were yinz guyz in Boardman, OH? Why do I have to ask? I grew up about 10 minutes from Boardman. I hope you at least stopped for ice cream at the Handel's across the street from the Holiday Inn there.

Cheers,
Jim

The RUT is was a Rounders ride - some of us belong to an internet club called "ROUNDERS" - I can't remember what RUT stood for it was the 3rd gathering? I think? Anyway - once a year we meet and that year it was in Boardman OH. I haven't been in a few years but they are a nice group of folks.
