Hooky Ride! Glorious Day!

Postby JimVonBaden » Thu Feb 16, 2006 9:14 pm

Since I don’t get to ride much, and my girl has to force me to get on my bike, and the weather was not too chilly for me, 65 and sunny, I thought I would try to break my old riding record for one day, and pad my yearly mileage too.

So, I jumped on the bike, heated gear at the ready, and a camera to document my playing hooky from work.

Image
Here it is, note the snow in the background? It was 12” deep 3 days ago.

Image
Through my favorite back route by Clifton Virginia, and over the Occoquan Reservoir, I finally had a chance to get a shot of it. No traffic at all.

Image
Further down the road you hit the Occoquan again.

Image
I stopped at the Motorcycle Factory looking for boots to replace my old worn out ones. But they only had dirt bike boots.

Image
I stopped at another one, and they did have a beautiful chromed bike. I am thinking I need more chrome!

Image
They also had a great set of Tourmaster Boots for under $125. So I got them.

Image
Off again I went 619 to 17 to the infamous 211. Then up the twisties to Thornton Gap, an access to Skyline Drive and the BRP later.

Image
Looks like a cage didn’t do too well here.

Image
There was a little sand on the roads.

Image
Over the gap to Lauray, and then onto my favorite loop road 675, and my favorite photostop.

Image
Gratuitous bike shot.

Image
The beauty is always tempered by the trash left by jerks who have no respect for beauty! This is either a MC battery, ir a lawn tractor battery.

Image
Kids, most likely, leaving their ugly mark.

Image
A tiger joined me at the pass. They are from Florida, but trailered their bike up.

Image
The ride wasn’t totally devoid of snow and ice.

Image
A beautiful ride along the river ends 678.

Image
Just before 55 and Front Royal, you see some awesome Horse Farms. Of course Northern VA is known as Horse Country.

Image
I stopped for dinner in Fairfax, and had some Floutas, and nearly forgot the picture. It was very good.

Image
Parked where it started, there is MUCH less snow.

Image
And it got dirty too. Now I have to wash and polish the chrome. Hey, where did the chrome go?

Image
Just puttered around, and managed an incredible for me 222 miles.

You don't get the ride much? Who are you, and when did you steal JVB's bike and logon?

Hey what about the max speed - 100 mph - that was pretty fast for 211?
