SERIOUS M/C FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Postby PhilAger » Thu Nov 29, 2012 7:41 pm

Here’s a link to Gregory Frazier’s July 2011 article concerning the first globe-girdling motorcycle adventure ride by young Mr. Carl Clancy on a 4-cylinder Henderson m/c manufactured in Indiana.
http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/284/10513/Motorcycle-Article/Dr--Frazier--Adventurers-to-Girdle-the-Globe.aspx

I think that this centennial ride is worth recognizing and sharing on our forum (if not participating in individually [2 - 23 June 2013]). After our recent visit to IRL & GB, one learns to appreciate ‘history’ a little bit more. Look how far we’ve come in the past 100 years with regard to motorcycling and so many other categories (transportation, communications, medicine, Politics! etc…). Mr Walter Storey’s hard-learned lessons concerning rider training is also a reminder to know what we’re getting into when we put on our motorcycle boots (1-day's training!)… I specifically asked Avner & Steve if they’d heard of this centenary commemoration at their Horizon’s Unlimited gathering in NC but did not get a response. The rest of you guys ought to know about this centennial ride!

This link to a Horizon’s Unlimited blog discusses the 1912 circumnavigation and the 2012 global ride. The blog was started in Oct 2011 by Grant Johnson referencing Greg Frazier’s research and his Motorcycle Adventurer book. The blog currently has 6 pages and ends in Oct 2012 with the completion of the Irish ride from Dublin to Belfast. It seems that some modern-day Riders/Writers intend to girdle the globe in 2013 with help from BMW... The most recent riders should've also visited The Ace Cafe and London by now...

To think, Phil & Karen just rode along some of the same roads in the Donegal area on 17Sep12! Here’s the story of those that attended the HU launch in Dublin and their ride to Donegal:

Here we are at the Slieve League in County Donegal!

Just thought our Forum’s contributors should be aware of this gentleman’s adventuresome feat…

Here's a link to the blog for the BMW-UK riders: Geoff Hill & Gary Walker, as they recreate Carl Clancy's 1912-13 adventure ride.

Their trip started on 25 March in Belfast: http://www.adelaideadventures.com/

I'll bet there are more than a few International Twin cities that could be matched with this particular circumnavigation...

Here's another link on the Centennial Ride from the Irish Time's whose reporter is accompanying the Dynamic Duo!

http://www.irishtimes.com/peter-murtagh-7.1837453

They just recently had breakfast at the Ace Cafe in London, and they're now somewhere in Belgium.

Thus far, they're having a lot of fun in some overly cold and inclement European weather to boot.
