Veteran's day ride in Italy

Postby Meza44 » Sun Nov 20, 2011 2:40 pm

Unfortunately I was unable to attend due having to take my bike to the shop for repairs, but in Naples, Italy a group of US Military and civilians rode to the Sicily/Rome American Cemetery. I plan of doing this next year.

Hey! Other than the broken/in for service bike, how's Italy treating you?

I love it, can't wait to get the bike back. It was damaged in shipping but I was able to ride it a little before taking it in.

I will do ride reports once I get going.

The roads here, at least in the Naples area, are mixed with marble dust so it can be a little tricky in the wet. But, once I get used to it I hope to go all over the place.

I was going to go to EICEMA, which is a huge motorcycle show in Milan but things came up and I didn't.

I was blessed to have spent almost 7 of my 20 career years in the U.S. Army in Italy... 4.5 years in the Pisa-Livorno area (Camp Darby) which is only about an hour from Firenze, and almost 2 years at an Italian Air Defense base in a small village (Ceggia) about 75 miles east of Vicenza... what a great place to be. Friendly folks, never a bad meal no matter where you stop, and plenty of twisty roads... I envy you being there...

ride safe! and have a glass of the house wine for me... :flask:

Chris,

I can't think of a better place to go motorcycling (marble dust or not)! Have a great time, and be sure to post the occasional picture for us so we know what you're up to.
